I am miffed as well. There seems to be general consensus among media types that Bob Stoops is some kind of coaching god. Where is this coming from?

Coach Tressel doesn't get this kind of respect and his program is more successful on every level. And, Coach Tressel is not a whiner.

It's coming from the fact that he beat up on mentally weak, ultra conservative, and just plain soft Texas teams early in the decade. But once Vince came and got Mack to loosen up (plus Mack hiring bad-ass no BS guys as DC's) and that has changed. If you take away those wins vs soft Texas teams, Stoop shas done NOTHING since January 3rd, 2001. Mike Stoops leaving didn't help matters, he's the one that really gave those OU teams the toughness and swagger they had.

Unfortunately, the media still doesn't seem to get the memo yet so we have to live with OU getting shoved down our throat despite the fact they barely beat Stanford in the Sun Bowl the year previous.

This poll is NOT part of the BCS standings, which come out in October.

NOTE - USC is eligible in the AP poll, but not the Coaches and the BCS

Boise State Broncos pick up 7 first-place votes in AP poll - ESPN

Boise State has gained seven first-place votes to close in on No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Ohio State as the top three in the first regular season Associated Press football poll.
The Broncos remained third after a thrilling 33-30 victory against Virginia Tech on Monday night, receiving eight first-place votes and 1,399 points from the media panel, 13 points behind the Buckeyes.
Ohio State received four first-place votes and 1,412 points.
Alabama had 47 first-place votes, down seven, and 1,484 points.
TCU moved up two spots to No. 4. Texas remained No. 5 and received a first-place vote.
No. 8 Florida dropped four spots after a sloppy 34-12 victory against Miami (Ohio) and No. 10 Oklahoma fell three places after beating Utah State 31-24.

Of course, Doug Lesmerises (purposely not linked) was one of the people who voted them #1, and he's probably deeply disappointed that he's not the only one who thought of that shameless stunt.

He also had M*ch*g*n #8 on his ballot this week.

Even Marion Barry didn't think you could smoke THAT much crack and still keep your job.

I agree, but looking at the BP poll I see our voters have Boise at #3. Apparently, despite all of the complaining, some of us are fine with their lofty ranking.

I put them at 14.

I can live with them at #3. I don't like or agree, but whatever. It's people voting them over Alabama and tOSU that is fucking ridiculous.
