Not impossible road to the SEC east, given the Vols problems. We get by the Poodles - with a young qb - and the Cocks, with their veteran screw up qb - and even a loss at Bama will not keep us from the SECCG. There, at least we have a shot at the Sugar Bowl with as many as two or three losses..

Here, we have that implied thingy working...

I think the Tide will have some attitude problems from the BCSNC hangover, the #1 ranking, and the smoke being blown up their butts by the Tahd faithful.

If we can get them in the SECCG after they've already beaten us, I think we have a good shot.
I definitely see Florida as a legitimate top-10/15 team right now. If they finish in the top-10, regardless of their losses, then they will be in a BCS bowl. It's difficult to see the SEC being shut-out of a 2nd BCS participant and I think Florida is the best bet to secure it, if they don't win the conference. However, Gator, do you think the SEC will have a title-game participant in Alabama? If they don't then doesn't Alabama get the Sugar Bowl and then the #2 SEC team gets selected to whatever else?

I don't think the Tide repeats as a BCS title participant. Having had four years in a row, for all of the SEC !!!!ELEVENTYONE!!!!! hype, that is hard as Hell to maintain. I see the SEC West devouring itself, with Bama likely winning, but not as an undefeated team. With UF and Bama playing regular season, that just decreases the chance that either will be undefeated or one loss.

So I see the SEC Champion as a Sugar Bowl team, and the loser to the Outback or Citrus. But you never know. Nobody had a clue that UF would be in the BCSNC game in the '06 season. And the Gators seem to do better in even numbered years. (96, '06, '08)

Sir even though Tebow is in the NFL he still calls the shots. Florida will go to which ever bowl they fucking want per Tebow. If they want the sugar bowl, they get the sugar bowl.....no questions.

I'm buying the Florida hype. If Greg McElroy can win the NC as a first year starter, I don't think it's unreasonable Brantley can't at least lead a loaded team to a BCS bowl. I'm leaning towards picking them to win the SEC.

Bama has the target on their back this time plus a depleted defense(which of course the media is ignoring, even though you can look back as recently as '09 USC, '07 Florida, and '06 tOSU to see how much losing your star defenders can cost even the best programs).

Auburn would need to make a giant leap forward defensively and become more consistent on offense.

Arkansas also needs huge improvements on D and Mallett needs to prove himself against worthwhile D's. He was horrible last year in big games.

Georgia is also lacking on D plus they have a 1st year QB.

LSU's offense was anemic and their D was subpar. Most of their hype is based on their name. Plus they have a lunatic for a head coach who will manage to fuck up their season even if they are good enough to win the SEC.

Then you drop down a tier or two with UT, Ole Miss, UK, Vandy, MSU, and USC.

The SEC on paper, is pretty weak compared to the last few years. No reason Florida can't compete for an NC with a coach like Meyer and the amount of talent they've recruited, and ESPN still firmly attached to their nutsack.

I think I like the overall talent on our 85 man roster better than our recent BCSNC years. Of course, no Percy and no title in 08. Different defensive ends and no title in 06. So by saying that I realize that overall strength does not replace having some key studs - the guys who win the tight games with amazing individual efforts. But Brantley throws at least as pretty a ball as Chris did, and John has a bigger arm. If he can handle pressure, then we have as good a chance as any to compete in the SEC.

And I agree that the SEC is down. But if we can win an undefeated or one loss SECCG, the SEC rep will carry us to the title game. Not altogether impossible. I don't know about winning the SEC race, but I think we should be a good bet to place.

I think that the Gators are a good bet to place, and with their recent success under Meyer, there really is little reason to think that they won't be the SEC East champ. I do think that Chris's advantage in 06 was in experience and John may falter on that quite a bit more in the closer games. I think its reasonable to see them losing to Bama, possibly LSU (though they have their own problems, i.e. Miles ) and Florida State (as the season goes on, we will see how close the 'Noles are to getting back to form but they have good experience and talent coming up). I think that gets them the division (don't see anyone in the East outside UF getting double digit wins), and then who knows what happens in the championship game. While my opinion on the depth/overall talent of the conference is subject to change, I think that the SEC doesn't have the team to dominate this year and will probably end up skipping out on the title game. Its not necessarily a bad thing.

How's your O-Line shaping up? Will they give Brantley the time to be a confident QB?

Here is the Miami rag's look

BREAKING DOWN THE TWO-DEEP DEPTH CHART
LEFT TACKLE
Xavier Nixon - Consistency needs to improve during fall camp.
Matt Patchan - Back from injury and pushing Nixon.

LEFT GUARD
Carl Johnson - A beastly man of men.
David Young - Could use a big spring with so many talented players behind him.

CENTER
Mike Pouncey - One of nation's best, according to assistant Steve Addazio
Sam Robey - A capable back up.

RIGHT GUARD
Maurice Hurt - Time to shine for redshirt senior
James Wilson - Time to get mean for redshirt junior.

UF Football Preview: Offensive Line

Bottom line is we are as deep and experienced as we have ever been. Which leaves it up to injuries and desire. I do not know if Addazio and Meyer are going to go with more of a running game and not put too much on Brantley too soon, or try to go with a guy with an NFL arm and an untried psyche. As Urban is an Ohio guy, I think we do a combination of road grading and short passes to lure the occasional vertical TD strike. I do not expect to see the spread - or what you think of as a traditional spread so much. More like 2006 where we have a fullback again. The whole idea is to get a back or receiver into a mis-match on the D personnel. Everything we do is to get some fast dude into space - preferably on a backer. If you get aggressive, we'll use that little forward basketball pass to the TE or fullback that was so effective with Hernandez. We try to have two quick dump options if the qb gets pressure, and we try not to have a guy back there too long. We are not going to have John go through four reads - we send too many guys out as receivers, and pass protection was not our forte last year.

Seriously, while we could lose four games, we could just as likely be ranked in the top 3 come SECCG. More than any year in some time, we are as big an unknown factor as I have ever seen us. Kind of exciting in a give-me-indigestion type way.

CFN's preseason ranking - they stress that it's based on how good teams are, rather than an expectation of where they'll finish.

1. Bama
2. tOSU
3. Gawja (Woof!)
4. Florida
5. Oklahoma
6. Wisconsin
7. TCU
8. Boise St
9. Va Tech
10. Texas

47. TSUN

Ohio State Ranked 2nd In Preseason Poll

Cameron Heyward is returning for his senior season along with 16 other starters from the Buckeyes' 11-2 season in 2009. Last year ended in a promising win over Oregon as Terrelle Pryor finally came through and led Ohio State to a Rose Bowl victory, the first since 1997.

There is no Beanie Wells again this year. No prolific running back to shake some of the pressure from Pryor's back, but there is a DeVier Posey. Posey will be one of the prime targets in the receiving core and although he might not be an elite wideout with first round potential, he'll give Pryor and the receiving corps a boost.

The defense and special teams will be the key for the Buckeyes this year. Surprise, surprise. Another Tressel-led team that doesn?t love offense and grinds out wins with tough defense and dominating the field position game.
