2010-11 bowl projections

A note of what I think is pure awesomeness that doesn't involve SOS or AQs or Big East 5-7 conference winners or plunger raping...

Army is now 6-4 and is bowl eligible...meaning I believe we will see all 3 service academies in bowl games this year. Well done fellas, very...well...done.
Must see TV for me.

I agree.

I always enjoy watching the academies in bowl games, unless Coop is getting pwned by a 17 point underdog Air Force in the Liberty Bowl, 23-11. :shake:

Current bowl projections are for 4 games with Big Ten vs. SEC teams. All of them are going to be sweet match-ups:

Sugar Bowl: Ohio State vs. LSU (favors Ohio State me-thinks)
Outback Bowl: Iowa vs. South Carolina (probably favors Iowa for consistent performance, but SC for what has the chance to show up)
Capital One Bowl: Michigan State vs. Alabama (Alabama)
Gator Bowl: Penn State vs. Florida (crapshoot, but Florida on talent)

I get giddy on these possibilities. Could be interesting as I could see the Big Ten teams winning all four, or losing all four. Thats the nature of playing up against a great conference foe in the bowl season.

A few other great possibilities like: Oklahoma-Arizona, Michigan-Nebraska, San Diego State-Navy (gotta represent), BYU-Notre Dame (I hope the stadium blows up).

However, I think that 3 of the BCS projections are going below-par. A Rose Bowl with Boise State (fuck that!), Fiesta Bowl with Pitt (shitty), and an Orange Bowl with TCU (meh).

What match-ups that could happen are you most looking forward to?

How? It's the SEC!!!

Not much I can disagree with here despite being disgusted with the results.

Two worthwhile games (Rose and Sugar) in the whole thing. NC: Abortion resulting in the most illegitimate national champion since BYU won it by going against a 6-6 Michigan team. Fiesta Bowl: Corn Aggies by 40. Orange Bowl: a close, sloppy game or an LSU blowout.

Schrager BCS bowl projections through Week 12

BCS National Championship Game: No.1 Oregon vs. No.2 Boise State
Rose Bowl: Stanford (At-Large) vs. Wisconsin (Big Ten Champions)
Fiesta Bowl: Nebraska (Big 12 Champions) vs. Connecticut (Big East Champions)
Sugar Bowl: Auburn (SEC Champions) vs. Ohio State (At-Large)
Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech (ACC Champions) vs. LSU (At-Large)

Huh? OK, here?s how I see it playing out:

Auburn loses to Alabama, but wins the SEC championship game in Atlanta next week, earning them a spot in the Sugar Bowl. Boise beats Nevada something like 45-35 Friday night, then wallops Utah State, somewhat surprisingly getting bumped up to the No. 2 spot in the BCS Standings.

TCU? Sorry, Horned Frogs. The Utah win in Salt Lake City that looked so amazing a few weeks back lost a lot of its luster when the Utes were blown out, 28-3, by Notre Dame and an 18-year-old quarterback in South Bend two weeks ago. The win over Oregon State on opening weekend? The Beavers? loss to Washington State ruined any reason to brag about that one. Despite going undefeated, I don?t see TCU getting an at-large bid over one-loss Ohio State or one-loss LSU. And if given the choice, the Rose Bowl would rather keep the Big Ten-Pac-10 natural rivalry alive than go with the Horned Frogs.

Nebraska beats Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship, LSU handles Arkansas this weekend, and Va. Tech and Connecticut earn BCS bids for winning their two conference titles.

Re: Va. Tech and Connecticut earn BCS bids for winning their two conference titles.

In which case it will mean that both Boise State and James Madison (Div 1-AA) will have beaten a BCS conference champion. Doesn't say much for the strength of the ACC does it?

And Mich1gAAn will have beaten a BCS conference championship; something I'm sure that will be touted to us ad-infinitum in the off season.

Of course, Rich Rod could always win the Big lEast. Reason enough for a contract extension, if you ask me.

The presumption seems to be that when we kick scUM's ass we sew up a BCS bid. While I think that is likely it's not automatic. Assuming Boise and TCU win their games against their mighty conference foes, that leaves two at large spots (assuming Wiscy beats Northwestern) for LSU, Stanford, Ohio State and Sparty. I know butts in the seats will trump BCS rankings (favoring OSU) but the fact is we're a lot better off if PoSU beats Sparty and - more importantly - Arkansas beats LSU.

The Sugar Bowl will gladly take a one loss LSU, and the Rose could look fondly on one-loss Stanford, so I'm rooting for Arkansas to take down the Bayou Bengals and open the door for the Bucks with no questions asked. Frankly, there are other teams I'd rather play in New Orleans, Louisiana, than Louisiana State given the home crowd advantage. Woo Pig Sooey! Go Hogs!

Gimme Boise or TCU in the Sugar Bowl. I would love to beat one of them into the ground on the big stage and shut up some of the so called "experts" who are enamored with them. If they want to give us the Big East or ACC champs that works for me, too.

Only one of Boise and TCU are guaranteed a BCS berth. It is likely that the other will not be invited to an at-large bid. That leaves 3 spots for the leftovers. Ohio State's chances are very high to receive an invite out of the remainders.

It really sounds like the Rose is going to bite the bullet this year and take one of the undefeated non AQs because down the road they could be forced to take one when they are less desirable. I actually think one will be in the NC game and one will be playing Bucky.

If the Big boys hold serve, it goes a little something like this.

AU vs Oregon-NCG
Wisky vs Boise-Rose
Ok St vs Conn-Fiesta
LSU vs tOSU/Stan-Sugar
VT vs tOSU/Stan-Orange

Likely that the Sugar Officials, who were at the Iowa game, love the matchup possibility of the rematch from 3 years back. This forces the Orange to choose the Pac10 runner up Stan, who only lost to Oregon, or TCU whose late signature win is against a crappy Utah program and who also almost lost to a Non AQ team down the stretch.

If TCU or Boisy end up in the NCG game the other will not be in the Rose Bowl....

The Rose is going to take a non-AQ because they will have no choice if Oregon wins out. I believe they would then be required to take the non-AQ team, as long as in the top 12 (?), with the highest BCS ranking.

They both got one last year and they weren't ranked 3rd and 4th in the polls, as they are this year. With the love they are getting in 2010 I'll be very surprised if they both don't get bids, assuming they finish unbeaten.

Yes, but last year the Big-12, Pac-10, ACC, Big East did not offer compelling at-large bids. Only the Big Ten and SEC did. With 4 at-large spots open, one has to go to the non-AQ team that is ranked inside the top-8 or 12 (not entirely sure on that one) and then they have 3 at-large spots to give to the most compelling teams after that. A 3 team combination (only one from any individual conference) of Stanford, Ohio State, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Michigan State or whatever you want to look at it offer a better national following than the TCU or Boise State leftover.

You've got plausible conference champions of:
Wisconsin
Auburn
Oregon
Nebraska
Virginia Tech
Connecticut

At-Large:
Boise State
Ohio State
LSU

And one of the following:
Stanford
Oklahoma (or Oklahoma State)
TCU

That doesn't even take into consideration the possible upsets in the conference title games.
