2010-11 bowl projections

Yes, but last year the Big-12, Pac-10, ACC, Big East did not offer compelling at-large bids. Only the Big Ten and SEC did. With 4 at-large spots open, one has to go to the non-AQ team that is ranked inside the top-8 or 12 (not entirely sure on that one) and then they have 3 at-large spots to give to the most compelling teams after that. A 3 team combination (only one from any individual conference) of Stanford, Ohio State, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Michigan State or whatever you want to look at it offer a better national following than the TCU or Boise State leftover.

I don't disagree with your reasoning, but the voters have the two frauds in the top four this year. While I don't believe they should both gets at-large bids I think we better accept the very real possibility that they'll both get one. Hell, they're one upset away from being voted into the NC game this year.

Agreed. Although I personally won't gripe too much about TCU and Boise both getting into the games when the BCS will already include a probable 4 or 5 loss team in UConn and a team in VaTech that lost to an FCS team. We are getting some shitty match-ups.

Under the current projections, I think I'll only be able to stomach 2, maybe 3, of the BCS games. I imagine that the Sugar Bowl dream game of LSU vs. Ohio State will be the highest rated BCS game. The 2nd will probably be the Rose Bowl game of Wisconsin-Boise (an interesting match-up actually). The 3rd-highest will be the Title game.

I imagine that the Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl will both have lower ratings than the Outback, Capital One and the Cotton Bowl.

FYI...some genius decided to schedule a bunch of Big Ten Bowls this season at basically the same time. Jan.1: Dallas-Noon, Outback-1:00, Cap One-1:00, and Gator-1:30. How dumb is that?

The BCS only has one purpose. To put the 2 best teams in the NCG. All the other matchups aren't on the top of their priority. Only the actual bowl committees care about that.

And yet, they require things to fall just right in order to accomplish the task. What a fucked up system. :roll2:

It really sounds like the Rose is going to bite the bullet this year and take one of the undefeated non AQs because down the road they could be forced to take one when they are less desirable. I actually think one will be in the NC game and one will be playing Bucky.

If the BCS Title Game is Oregon-Auburn, the Rose Bowl is REQUIRED to take the higher rated of Boise State or TCU this year, as long as the highest rated of them is somewhere between #3 and #12 (probably anywhere between #3 and #16, since the Big East team will probably be ranked below #16).

If Boise State or TCU make the BCS Title Game against Oregon, the Rose Bowl has a CHOICE to take the other of TCU/Boise St to face the Big Ten team, and thus satisfy their once-in-4-years requirement, which begins this year. But the situation where 1 non-AQ is already in the Title Game to face a Pac Ten or Big Ten team is the only situation where the Rose Bowl actually has an option regarding the non-AQs.

So barring upsets today, TCU will meet Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl? I'm looking forward to that one, already.

Barring upsets today, and as long as Oregon and Auburn win next week, then yes, TCU the Rose Bowl has to take TCU, and as long as Wiscy stays ahead of tOSU in the BCS rankings, they'll also go to the Rose Bowl.

Yeah, Oregon and Auburn need to win next week. If one or both lose, our own BCS chances are threatened. I know we travel well, but that would be several one loss BCS teams. I'd hate to be left out of the party.

I'm fine with Auburn-Oregon in the NC game at this point. TCU-Wisconsin in the Rose would be interesting as well. I just want our Bucks to get a BCS bid, too.

Who do we have to know to get the Big East or ACC champion, like Florida and Iowa got last year? :wink2:

Timing wise I think Oregon and Aurburn fall behind OSU, but that's not a given. At this point, it hardly matters, though. Ohio State v. some SEC team in the Sugar seems like a done deal. Frankly, I'd rather see the Orange bowl, but.... oh well.

Seriously, just relax about the BCS bid. The Buckeyes are virtually assured of a record 9th BCS berth.

There are 10 spots - 6 BCS Champions, TCU, a 2nd SEC team are 8 teams. The last 2 spots go to a second Big Ten team and either Stanford or a 2nd Big 12 team. With Boise State losing, there's no way the Buckeyes are left out - tOSU is more desirable than Sparty, 2-loss Okie St, 3-loss Okla or 3-loss Neb, or 1-loss Stanford.

The Sugar and Orange Bowls would both grab tOSU if they get the chance. The Orange won't get the chance, since the Sugar picks first.
