107,267 showed up to see a 3-9 MAC team with the 97th rated scoring defense, 102nd rated pass efficency defense and 96th rated run defense hold scUM to 10 points.

Classic.
When you put it like that you, it sounds like Dick Rod didn't do a very good job last year.

Steve Threet makes it official:

Threet announced Monday that he is leaving the University of Michigan football program. In a prepared statement to the Detroit News -- article from Angelique Chengelis ( Quarterback Threet leaves U-M, destination unknown | detnews.com | The Detroit News)

"I have requested and received my release. I do not yet know where I will continue my collegiate career and will have no further comment until that decision is made."
We have been hearing about this rumor for quite sometime. There are things that are going around about what actually happened. We are not stating these are facts, but what we have heard. First off, sometime after the last game and Christmas break Steve Threet and his parents asked Coach Rod for a meeting to talk about Threet's future and the direction that Coach Rod sees for Threet.
They were told that this meeting would have to wait until after signing day??? Does this seem right? To be telling your possible starting quarterback for the 2009 season that you don't have time for him right now, because you're to busy recruiting kids that might not even come here? Basically saying that those kids are more important than giving thirty to sixty minutes to meet with your starting quarterback and his family. What happened to the "family atmosphere" we've heard so much about?

And what happened to all the talk of a Oklahoma-style offense that we keep hearing about or was that just talk to get past recruiting day, to keep certain players around such as Threet, Clemons, and Webb, etc.?

How does this help and hurt the program in the long term and short term? Again, if you win, these issues will go away very quickly. But if this team struggles, a lot of criticism will focus on how these situations were handled. It is the nature of the beast. We are going to examine some of these issues and discuss where the program go from here.

The negative of Steve Threet leaving now:

...Cont'd
You can't keep losing players and then suggest that the new kid(s) will save the day. At some point, you need to stop the bleeding of talent and get players to stay and learn to get things done on the field, as opposed to the message boards. Threet leaving makes Michigan weaker in 2009 -- period -- whether or not he eventually lost his spot to Robinson, Forcier, Sheridan, etc. (And by the way, Gardner and Bolden are not guarantees to pick Michigan, especially Bolden who wouldn't pick Michigan if signing day was today.)

I don't know that they're too good for a live mascot. I think it has been more of a practical decision, based on the possible liability ramifications of having a foul-tempered, smelly, frequently rabid rodent chained up on the sidelines.

They put a chain on Dickwad? About damn time.

Scout.com: Ricardo miller moving...

2010 FL WR verbal Ricardo Miller (mom ran track at UM) is moving to Huron HS in Michigan (where fellow '10 WR verbal Jeremy Jackson plays, son of UM RB coach Fred Jackson).

He'll be available for more recruiting weekends in AA (he's their most vocal recruiter) but will have less presence in the south.

This is entirely unfair. Michigan is going to have a monopoly on receivers soon. :wink2:

Rich Rodriguez is like my NCAA Football 2009: all you really want to sign is a good offensive lineman, but end up signing 10 receivers.

...which is funny, because they don't throw the ball and they don't have a reliable QB that can get the ball to them... yet they're somehow able to convince all of these WRs to come to their school.

Doesn't make sense to me. That snake oil must be magical.

Are you kidding? They have a QB that can pass like Dan Marino and run like Vick getting ready to launch an offense that will revolutionize CFB on our poor dumb unsuspecting asses. Or maybe that was the guy who chose Tulsa over them, I have lost track.

MGoBlog on Threet's Departure:

There's almost no precedent for a quarterback situation like the one Michigan faced in 2008, and almost no way to claw yourself out of a hole that vast at the most important position on the field. Once that hand was dealt, Rodriguez was dead meat.
:: ::
You can tell there's a but coming, so: but. But the Threet transfer bothers me. Even with the recruitment of Forcier and Robinson, Threet is the most experienced quarterback on the roster by two years and has some decent starting experience. He will find no better situation wherever he transfers unless it's to some podunk I-AA school. The transfer makes little sense for him personally or professionally unless there's something behind the scenes we don't know about.

Threet leaving the program is an obvious negative.
So it doesn't make sense on anyone's part. Why did it happen? I go back to a quote from Calvin Magee in the aftermath of the Michigan State game. Dan Feldman's Daily article on the transfer highlights it:
By staying and giving Michigan another feasible option besides Sheridan, Threet opened himself to public criticism from the Wolverines? coaches. Offensive coordinator Calvin Magee described Threet?s three-interception performance against Michigan State on Oct. 25 as ?inconsistent, like it always is.?
Man, that's pretty rough. Behind-the-scenes reports from insiders always said Threet had major confidence issues and didn't respond well to this staff's high pressure style. Maybe they tried to adapt. That evidently didn't last, so Threet decided he'd be better off elsewhere.
It's obvious neither side had much faith in the other.
Interesting ...

Price of U-M football season tickets reduced

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News
The average ticket price for Michigan football season-ticket holders will be $50 in 2009, a decrease from $53.57 in 2008.

U-M athletic director Bill Martin said the decision was made to help fans in the current economic climate.

"I just believe that in these economic times, we should find what we can do to help our fans," Martin said. "We should support them in any way we can.

"We're in excellent financial shape (the athletic department), so we feel we can do this. I can't say this is permanent, though."

Martin said that more than 90 percent of the seats in Michigan Stadium are held by season-ticket holders.

The eight-game season ticket will cost $400. Martin said student tickets also decreased, and an eight-game package will be $200.

The 2009 schedule:

Sept. 5 --Western Michigan

Sept. 12 --Notre Dame

Sept. 19 -- Eastern Michigan

Sept. 26 -- Indiana

Oct. 3 -- at Michigan State

Oct. 10 -- at Iowa

Oct. 17 -- Delaware State

Oct. 24 -- Penn State

Oct. 31 -- at Illinois

Nov. 7 -- Purdue

Nov. 14 -- at Wisconsin

Nov. 21 -- Ohio State

Still overpriced! :scum4:
