2009 TSUN News (football only discussion)

"Michigan is currently my leader. They keep in touch with me the most as coaching staff. They make me feel the most needed and I feel they can make me better based on the many successful players they have turned out", Cullen said.
I'm sorry, can somebody refresh my memory? What success does DickRod have "turning out" players? I'm assuming he means the league...

Justin Boren is a good example. They turned him out and it looks like he's going to be one of our starting guards. :p

Jeff is 100% right on. They are not gonna beat us this year plain and simple. The losses to rivals (MSU,OSU,and ND) two years in a row will have the alumni calling for his head. Their defense will take two steps back this year. It sounds weird but they may be worse this year. They better hope Tate does not get hurt. Lets say they go 3-9 again. Does Michigan fire him??????? They have run off every player that could run a pro style offense. The next coach better have the same style offense or he will have a 2-3 yr rebuilding process. His off the field antics are giving Michigan a horrible name. Dantonio is laughing it up because the Michigan newspapers are eating him alive and it will only cause RR to lose more credibility when recruiting...especially Michigan kids.

The only thing Michigan Stadium has on Folsom Field is size. I've been to Folsom a couple times and the setting is beautiful right at the foot of the Rockies.
They have a charging buffalo... that's got to be worth something vs a school too good for a mascot.

Michigan Football Tidbits: Incoming freshmen running backs, the tight end position, and the full backs

Incoming freshmen:

Smith: We have to admit we were not jumping up and down when Smith committed to Michigan. We consider him a good, but not great, back and he may end up surprising us.

We have to say that of all the freshmen on campus right now, he has surprised the most. He runs effortlessly and never seems to tire. He is very quick and light on his feet and just seems to glide over the ground when he runs. In addition, the coaches have remarked that Smith flat-out impressed them: they consider him a "football player" who will always get the yards needed -- sounds a lot like Hart.

Toussaint: He will be a running back at Michigan. The coaches can't wait to see him on campus.

The rumor is he has been told he will not get red-shirted, but I hope both Smith and Toussaint both end up as red-shirts. since running backs seems to be one of the easiest positions to recruit.

Compared to Smith (above), Toussaint he is thicker and has more power. Both Toussaint and Smith run between the tackles better than their sizes would indicate.

Well, coach Rod certainly couldn't have handled that situation any better than he did.

It warms the heart to read about a coach that cares about the athletes in his charge. He isn't just interested in what they can do on the field, but he really cares about the man inside the uniform. What a guy!

Are you fucking kidding me??:sad2:

I've already been over to the scout board to see what they were saying about this article.

Absolutely ridiculous that Rod basically ran this kid out (along with others). I keep seeing "he didn't fit the system." Threet isn't good for coach Rod's system? Can this guy coach at all? I mean, isn't coaching making kids into the players that you need/want them to be? This isn't a middle school team. It's Michigan. The kids that were there when Rod got there could play football or they wouldn't be at Michigan.

This system that I keep hearing about that is so player specific is nothing but a cop out for UM fans.

Paul Johnson became the coach at Georgia Tech and installed an offensive system. Now I didn't watch much GT football, but I believe they ran the triple option (or a version of the triple option) that Johnson brought with him from Navy. Georgia Tech won 9 games including a win over the Georgia Bulldogs. He won with kids recruited by the previous coach. He coached the players.
