So all of these guys have transferred since DickRod's arrival?

Yes. Mitchell quit, Slocum flunked out & I think one of (if not both) Kates / Patilla were not asked back (journeymen upperclassmen, seniors?).

Butler also left with 1 year left, but he was not only a man without a position (moved to DE this fall), but one without ability to keep it together off of the field. Very athletic TE though.

At what point do you start asking why so many guys get homesick or aren't good enough or why so many recruits don't want to compete?
Ohh come on, every elite school loses one of their top commits to the tulsas of the world once in a while.

* of the Ann Arbor 12 and under bowling league. The football team is allow to compete because the won't have 12 total victories in the Dick Rod error after this season.

The Threet tranfer hurts more than most will realize. Many of the "in the know" scUM fans expected Threet to begin theseason as the starter to allow Tater-Tot more time to learn the offense and add some more much needed bulk. Now, unless they want to throw Sheridan out there again (:slappy:), Tater's the guy from day-1.

A majority of them can't see the forrest for the trees. Tater-Tot may be a better fit for DR's schemes, but he's still a true-frosh (an undersized one at that). How many teams can realistically expect much improvement when turning the keys over to a true frosh? The game play may be a step up by default from last year's awful gaggle of QB's, but there will still be mistakes and miscues. If Tater gets hurt, quite possible given that offense and his slight frame, it's back to Sheridan (who seriously was one of the worst QB's I've ever seen on a major college team) or another undersized true frosh (Robinson) or last years wunderkind-turned-QB reject (Feagin). Oh, there's also clipboard stand Cone.

This is glorious.

Rodriguez left Threet no choice but to leave

By JOE VARDON
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

t wasn't some simple writing on the wall that caused Michigan quarterback Steven Threet to transfer.

More like a mural, and Rich Rodriguez was holding the paint brush.

Now, before we go any further, this is not suggesting that Rodriguez forced or encouraged Threet to leave UM. Background conversations after Threet's announcement Sunday night don't draw such conclusions.

ANALYSIS

But for Threet, who was literally born a Wolverines fan, to decide to transfer for the second time in three years after declaring a month ago he had no such intentions, it had to be painfully obvious to him that his career at UM was all but finished.

So obvious that Threet was no longer blinded by his lifelong love for the Wolverines - a love that might've shielded him from ominous early signs about his future.

There was the prolonged position battle with Nick Sheridan last summer, a walk-on quarterback who couldn't have imagined before last season that he would start a game at UM.

Rodriguez dropped hints throughout the season that Threet wasn't necessarily in his plans for quarterback in 2009, and lately has barely even mentioned Threet's name when the topic was broached.

Even worse, though, was Rodriguez leaving Threet home for UM's season finale at Ohio State. Threet was hurt and unable to play, true, but he also was the starting quarterback for eight games and an obvious leader.

Normally in those situations, the injured players make the trip, much like Threet did for a road game at Minnesota and right tackle Stephen Schilling did against the Buckeyes. But Threet was left home with no real explanation from Rodriguez.

Throw in the unabashed fawning over UM's two quarterback recruits - Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson - and it suddenly becomes clear what Threet saw in store for himself.

So, Rodriguez never really thought of Threet as his quarterback of anything other than the here and now in 2008. He was certainly entitled to that opinion.

Rodriguez made no secret his roster lacked quarterbacks who fit his spread-option scheme, and he believes Forcier and Robinson fill that role.

Fine.

Here's hoping in the near future Rodriguez says as much, wishes Threet the best, and they part ways amicably enough.

...Cont'd

Earlier in this thread, someone made the astute comment that RichRod is recruiting like he's still at West Virginia. Well, he's also acting like he's still at West Virginia, where there was no scrutiny, or even curiosity, from the media and fan base as long as the wins were coming. But it's a totally different world up in Ann Arbor, and the negative publicity is simply going to steamroll him over the next few years.

So scUM is in the same boat as last year? A quarterback with experience that doesn't work in their system, who DickRod will no doubt chase away, and a bunch of freshmen? Awesome, I can't wait for the coaching search after next year.

At 6'1" 185lbs, junior Cullen Christian still has the speed and athleticism to cover with the best of them. The Penn Hills H.S. (PA) product is a big, swift CB with cover skills. Players like Cullen are a premium in college football being that there aren't too many of them.

"Michigan is currently my leader. They keep in touch with me the most as coaching staff. They make me feel the most needed and I feel they can make me better based on the many successful players they have turned out", Cullen said.
