Tater is officially on the heisman watch.

In another blatant attempt to embarrass the football program, writers from the Detroit Free Press hid the foot stool of freshman QB Tate Forcier shortly before the press conference. Forcing him to go on without it.

So I found this thread on the UMgoblow forums leading to this link showing a video of a scUMmer throwing a punch against NoD's OL man. While I agree that this isn't at the level of the Blount punch, it is still a pretty egregious error. Notice the replies on the original post defending him.

Paraphrasing: It should've been a flag on NoD because it was the OL's fault for helmet-to-helmet (haha). Suspension of 1 quarter or game for EMU's fine. He was too aggressive and it was just a retaliation.

Tony Drake highlights (the package deal for Corey Nelson which fell through, and thus he became the favorite on UM boards to be dropped later on for a better prospect, like Barnes, Peace last year):

Big Ten suspends Michigan linebacker Jonas Mouton for punch against Notre Dame - ESPN

The Big Ten has suspended Michigan junior linebacker Jonas Mouton for one game for punching a Notre Dame player during last week's victory at Michigan Stadium.

"What are you talking about?" Rodriguez told reporters. "I know they were talking about one incident on film, and I didn't see anybody throw a punch or anything like that. The little bit I saw on the clip, I saw guys got tangled up together, and Jonas tried to free himself. There's a whole lot of officials out there, and I'm sure if there was an infraction, then they'd call it."

It marks the first time in recent memory that the league has suspended a football player when the player's team did not.

UM's defense is getting absolutely gashed on the ground by a very bad EMU team. EMU's defense is even worse however, and that should put this game out of reach eventually.

For now, EMU is on the doorstep, down 3-10, trying to tie it up.

JB Fitzgerald continues to sit on the sldeline, despite Mouton's suspension. Instead, walkon LB Leach is starting and not doing very well (though veteran starter Ezeh has also had a bad day, a common occurrence these days).

TD EMU. QB bootleg. Beat everyone to weakside and squeezed in.

10-10.

Michigan played four walkons in their win against EMU. Two got lots of playing time. Kevin Leach played all game at LB for the suspended Jonas Mouton. Jordan Kovacs played a lot at safety, in place of Mike Williams. Both did well by most accounts, but that's two walkons too many. The other two walkons who played, but got fewer snaps, were Floyd Simmons for Stevie Brown and Will Heininger for Brandon Graham.

Carr left the cupboard bare -- RichRod did not chase away any LBs or DBs. Yes, he should have recruited more defensive players his first couple of classes. But the numbers problem is in the junior and senior classes. We have two seniors on defense Graham and Brown. Both are good, but you'd like to have more. We have maybe four or five decent players on defense in the Junior and Senior classes. The talent is especially bad at linebacker. The good news is that RichRod has recruited talent on defense: Vlad, Turner, Cissoko, Roh, Martin, Campbell. Duane Long loves Courtney Avery at CB. Marvin Robinson was highly pursued. (note, no linebackers on that list. That's the one place I'm not sure RichRod has recruited well -- we'll have to wait and see).

Stop blaming it on Carr. Rodriguez should've recruited more defensive players and Michigan is paying for it right now. Sometimes graduating classes work that way and you need more players at a certain position.

Rodriguez made it pretty clear that he wanted to get his offense up and running before he gave too much of a shit how the defense looked. You're seeing the consequences of that and it has nothing to do with Carr.

I didn't follow recruiting much before I was on BP, but I have a hard time believing that Carr just didn't recruit LBers for a couple years.
