Does it also say in those archives that the team that scores more TDs than the team who kicks more FGs wins?...

Not always true; we have a thread here devoted to that subject.

If you don't believe me, check out The Big Ten Network this Sunday at 8pm EDT. (Hint: replay of the '74 edition of The Game)

[PennState1985] Has a team that just kicked field goals ever beaten an opponent that scored a touchdown? [/PennState1985]

edit - Damn, DBB beat me to the punch while I was finishing up the trivia contest. :wink2:

I know what u two r saying but u also know I'm saying as well. Several times in both the USC and LSU games we drove the ball down the field and had to settle for FGs, while the opposing teams scored TDs on us. Of course you can come up with exceptions but for the most part you need TDs to win big games, and not keep settling for FGs.

I hope this year we step on the pedal for 4 quarters and get this O rollin`, besides everyone knows JT isn`t trying to kill teams. Go Bucks

Andre Ware disagrees

Hey, who wouldn't, but it's not realistic at all to expect that on a regular basis. 617 yards on 64 offensive snaps set a record that's hardly ever mentioned, but it is a very significant one.

9.64 yards per offensive snap is a record for any team in any bowl game, ever.

Which just goes to prove the theory that playing ND is the cure for what ails ya. Somebody is going to get real lucky and get to play them in a big (maybe BCS) bowl game this year.

I'll throw this out there, feel free to disagree and/or discuss amongst yourselves....

The tOSU football program suffers from a problem the basketball program also has at times:

the recruiting is so good, it becomes a huge challenge to come up with the offensive game plan/mindset/coaching staff to equal it.

I think there have been times when they meet the challenge, notably against Charlie the Hut in the Fiesta bowl... but that was after a 7-4 season, and only after Troy and Teddy and Santonio FINALLY got the coaching staff to trust them.

In other words, where the staff needs to get better is in trusting the players and in being willing to make a mistake now and then. As we say in my office, if you're not making any mistakes, you're probably not doing anything....

I don't have any delusions of coach T turning into Al Davis, but I would like to see a more exciting (sorry, I'll say it, I like wins but love excitement) offense.

more points, please!

A good article from Marcus Hartman, based on media Q/A sessions at the Big Ten sessions earlier this week, talking about JT's plans for the offense this year. The 250 passing/200 rushing yards goal is mentioned, as is the concern for limiting the number of hits on the QB. JT talked about being able to have a power running game, as well as the ability to throw it deep, intermediate, and short. But there's also this nugget:

JT said that he'd like to have his receivers have the most touches in a game, then the tailback, and then the QB; and reiterated that by saying he'd like to attack with the receivers the most times, then the runners, and then have the QB be the last part.

I agree with the idea of JT needing to trust in his guys...most notably the QB. But in Pryor's case last year, I think it was more about JT protecting Pryor not really lack of trust. The question this season will now be trust...does JT turn Pryor loose like he did Troy? I don't think so yet...maybe as the season rolls along, Pryor builds that trust and gets more and more freedom.

I think this offense has the potential to be explosive, but I think we may need to be patient...Pryor may be a freakish athlete, but he is just a sophomore. But if the O-line protects him and he gets time to throw downfield, lots of fun things are going to open up for this offense.

And we start to see where the problem lies. The QB is always going to have the most touches in a game. We find a way to snap it to the WR's and we've got it licked. :)
