What about against ranked teams? Granted, we have an overall good PPP, but the whole "conservative offense" criticism is primarily based on performance against top 5 teams the last few years. I'd like to see how those numbers differ against Top 25 teams, because that would be a better indication, IMO, of how effective Tresselball is, more than the overall numbers.BB73;1561349; said:Assuming all the XPs were made 1-pointers, this would mean:
PPRZP (points per red zone possession):
5.29 - tOSU
6.17 - Okla
5.38 - USC
So tOSU's production was close to USC's but well behind Oklahoma, which had a record-setting offense that was neutralized in the BCSCG.
5.29 is an acceptable number for an 'elite' team. Changing just 1 FG into a TD last year would have given tOSU a higher RZPPP than USC.
This year, however, tOSU's RZPPP is a disappointing 4.375. Worth noting again this week is that Wiscy's is 6.55, first in the country.
[Soapbox] The NCAA really needs to change the red zone ranking to PPP. [/Soapbox]

We are moving the ball, we are getting on the other side fo the field, we are gettting in the redzone...We are not converting to TD's...It is not just a problem this year, it has always been a problem for us for a while.

There's obviously a big difference between crossing the 50-yard line and crossing the opponent's 20-yard line. And I'd agree that the red zone offense could stand to improve from recent years. But going by your 50-yard line standard, what percentage of 50-yard line crossings do you think should result in TD's. The percentages from the past couple of games don't seem too out of line to me.crazybuckfan40;1561170; said:I guess I ask to be able to score TD's more so than settle for fgs or punts ont he opponents side of the field.
Or it could be the youth..ysubuck;1562958; said:The defense is consistently the strong point of the team.
The offense is consistently the weak point of the team.
The same caliber of athlete is being recruited on both sides of the ball.
Doesn't it have to be the coaching?

They are mixing in more misdirection, Wiscy just did a good job of recognizing it. I was a little put off by the re-emergance of the *yawn* draw today.Jaxbuck;1563730; said:Maybe the X's and O's guys can tell me for sure but I swear I still see something different, especially in the run game. I don't know if its misdirection or what but I'm still feeling pretty good about what we can do running the ball. As brutal as the first half offense was I still come away with hope for the OL and overall play calling. It feels different.
Sophomore year is still a learning year. Remember, this is a much different offense than the one he was working under last year. He's still gonna have some lumps, but he does need to be smarter with some of his throws and stop locking on recievers. If he's still making these same mistakes next September, I'll be concerned. On the negative side, Pryor's decision making is still a long way off from where it needs to be and that's about as kindly as I can put it. I know he's young but it's halfway through his sophomore season. At what point do we wonder if the light going on is an "if", not a "when"?
