2009 Heisman Trophy discussion

Colt had a very meager start to the year. The second half of the season - which is all that mattered wrt Bradford/Tebow - he really turned it on.

Tebow has been very good not great for most of this year.

But Tebow is the 'best player on the best team' (aka surrounded by the most stacked roster), so he dwarfs elite individual seasons by Spiller, Gerhart, etc.

I agree that's how the voters will decide who wins, but the rationale seems silly to me. The have crystal balls for the best team. Statues are for individuals.

And that's with a lot less talent around him than the other candidates.

That usually doesn't help the cause. Too bad there wasn't a monster stat season by someone in the smaller schools..Not that he would have won,but it would have been a good year to make a case.

Here is my top 3...I don't know why so many people do top 5s...you only get to vote a top 3 if you actually vote in the thing.

1. Toby Gerhart
2. Colt McCoy
3. Ndamukong Suh

I had Spiller and Ingram much higher before this weekend. Ingram looked terrible against Auburn, and even though Spillers run back was impressive, he was a non factor for the rest of the game. Overall these 3 players have had the best season so far. If either Ingram, McCoy, Suh, or Tebow break out next week for a huge game, then maybe they could sneak up to #1, because I think this race is pretty close. But as of right now from what i've seen, Gerhat is #1.

Here's my top-5. JXC - I'm doing 5 because the season isn't over, and these are the only guys that I think can end up in my final top-3. :wink2:

1. McCoy
2. Gerhart
3. Ingram
4. Spiller
5. Tebow

Nobody's been beating the anti-Tebow drum any harder than I've been for the last 2 months, but he is now 4th in the nation in passing efficiency. As the QB of an undefeated team, with those stats, he's now a legitimate candidate. I think he's certainly going to NYC, and I now think that he's earned that based on his 2009 performance.

I think my final #1 will go to either McCoy or Gerhart, in my thinking they've got a lttle bit of separation from the other 3 guys. If McCoy has good stats and gets a win against Nebraska, I think he'll win and that he deserves it. If Texas loses and Florida wins, it will be a tight 3-way battle among Gerhart, Tebow, and McCoy.
