2009 Heisman Trophy discussion

Mark Ingram (2009)
Yards - 1542
YPC - 6.2
Rush TD's - 15

Beanie Wells (2007)
Yards - 1609
YPC - 5.9
Rush TD's ? 15

And Beanie did it on a bad ankle for much of the year. In terms of pure ability and importance to the offense, I think Beanie wins both of those categories too.

There?s also Larry Johson (PSU) who ran for over 2,000 yards, had 20 rushing TD's and averaged more than 8 YPC before the Heisman was awarded in 2002 ? he finished 3rd.

I feel like Suh or Gerhart deserved it more than Ingram. But because 70% or so of the voters are from the east and Suh plays defense, neither of them ever really had a shot.

I think Ingram won it in part because Alabama's never had a Heisman winner before.

Congrats to him and Alabama
I agree but someone could easily argue this:
Brady Quinn 2006 stats:
3426 yds 37 tds 7 ints 61.9%
Troy Smith 2006 stats:
2542 yds 30 tds 6 ints 65.3%

Except that, again, for the next two years, Archie's accomplishments are in jeopardy. And I would not be surprised if Ingram won it again next year, especially if no one puts up numbers like Gerhart did this year
I'd be pretty surprised if Ingram won. He barely won the trophy in a year when most americans/voters couldn't be bothered to learn who Suh or Gerhart was before midseason (Suh was a top-3 projected pick BEFORE this season).

Tebow could have won it last year if they wanted another 2 time winner. You'll never find a better kid, competitor or best player on the best team (other than that whole 'harvin' thing).

I agree, but can't help but wonder with the slew of sophomores winning as of late..If the pressure is finally building to pull the trigger sooner or later. It all depends on what he does on the field.

My last post (hopefully) on the topic...

If you can manage to read this and still believe the Heisman isn't completely fucktarded, then you're a better man than I. Or maybe worse, I don't know.

The point being, they should nuke this award from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
