2009-2010 Ohio State Hockey Season

Outscored 10-2 with two games to go. (Sorry...had to say it).

We should be thanking Fredo. After this pitiful display, it's going to be real hard not to call Paul Pooley home for next season.

BTW, I'm watching "The U" on ESPN right now. The title of which inevitably begs the question that if they ever make a documentary about the othe Miami will it be called "The Of":wink2:

Cheer, Colvini. Congrats on the win.

Haha. Miami undergrad and hockey is the only sport I'll cheer first for Miami. My freshman year I did not know what to do at my first Miami-OSU hockey but by my Junior year I decided I could with a clean conscience knowing my heart was with the Buckeyes every other time.

Obviously I am no crazy hawktalker and not all of us are (a member of the Sweet 16 team that I know has become a huge OSU fan). Whenever someone brings up the "of Ohio" complaint I point out Miami's domain name: muohio.edu Sorta asking for it, eh?

Was at this game. No love lost by either team in this one. Lots of cheap shots and jawing, from both teams, much of it early that wasn't seen by the refs. Miami played fast and fired up in the 3rd. Ohio State looked like they were defeated once Miami scored once. Great goal-tending by Ohio State, and I felt like both sides defenders play very well. Miami is a fun place to watch a game. Perfect size for a college rink.

SPOTLIGHT BUCKEYE
John Albert

By Rob Oller
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

spot_player_585.jpg

PHOTO (top): Ohio State junior John Albert was drafted in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. (Kyle Robertson, Dispatch)

Sport: Men's ice hockey

Vitals: 5 feet 11, 180 pounds

Hometown: Concord, Ohio (Lake Catholic, Ann Arbor, Mich. Pioneer)

The skinny: Adversity is nothing new to John Albert, who moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., right after committing to play hockey at Ohio State.

Even more galling to the lifelong fan of the Buckeyes, Albert attended Pioneer High School, which is almost across the street from Michigan Stadium.

"But Michigan didn't rub off too much on me," he said.

Albert had attended Lake Catholic High School in Mentor until moving to Ann Arbor when he made the U.S. National Team Development Program, which trained in Michigan.

"It was fine. (Michigan fans) didn't bother me too much," he said.

Beat Bowling Green last night, and up 3-1 so far tonight. Should be a good night. The season, however, is still a looming disaster. We've dropped to 7th in the CCHA standings, so a sweep of last place BG doesn't do much to right a sinking ship.

Another year of talent regression under the wise and storied tutelage of the great tanned one.

Bucks going to win 4-2. Out-played and out-shot Sparty bigtime but Palmisano kept #10 MSU in the game.

A goal by Shaefer with 1:07 to go put the good guys up 3-2 and an empty-netter made it 4-2. The goal was a weak wrap-around that somehow got into the net and was setup by about :30 of great work along the boards behind the net.

Only the 2nd road win all season for OSU. :ohwell:

Yes, I was shocked when they just said that. I want to like Markell. The program has a very high apr and grad rate, and one never reads about his players getting into trouble. The program is just going nowhere. It's always one glimmer of hope type season, such as last year, followed by three of mediocrity or worse. Players don't develop. The program doesn't progress. Fan interest is half of what it was at the beginning of the decade.

If Ohio State is serious about hockey, and they'd better be since they're the ones pushing hardest for a B10 hockey conferece, something needs to be done.:osu:

ORD - would you push for Miami to be part of that conference? Seems like a good small market team to bring into the fold given their run of 3-4 successful years?

Would the creation of a Big10 conference motivate teams like PSU, IU, Purdue, NWU to build programs

No, and it's not just my distaste for Fredo motivating my position. If we bring in Fredo, the domers and some other CCHA refugee, it's not really a Big Ten Hockey Conference. Besides, why would they come along when there's a strong possibility that they'd just get kicked out a few years later when the club programs at Purdue, PSU and Illinois make the jump to D1 status.

The only way to do it is to do it right, and that means getting 3 more real Big Ten schools to start d1 programs.

As for current hockey schools, the last article that I read on the subject has them breaking as follows:

Strongly in favor: Ohio State
Moderate Support: UM, MSU and Wiscy
Against: Minnesota

I think the motivation for other conference schools comes down to money. Would it generate enough additional revenue from the BTN to justify adding 2 D1 programs (would need to add a women's program for Title IX reasons) and build/uprgrade facilities. If it could be shown to be a positive cash flow for their athletic departments, then I don't see why they wouldn't make the jump.

I'm assuming the only reason their against it is because of their very strong regional rivalries with Minny Duluth being a top talent program.

Sorry for all the questions. Uncle of mine lettered for Air Force in Hockey and I like learning and reading about non-revenue sports and how they can (and should) contribute to over all athletic programs.

Eventually Minnesota is going to fall into line. They don't drive the bus in this conference, and they have a new football stadium to pay for. What's the saying about the Big Ten, Michigan has one vote. Ohio State has one vote. Joe Paterno thinks he has a vote, and the rest of the schools combined have one vote.

Besides with only an 8 team conference, that leaves plenty of opportunities for Minny to schedule home-and-home series with their traditional in-state schools or host an all-Minnesota tournament. They'd be able to preserve their traditional rivalry with UND also.

In the end, Minnesota will do what the rest of the league tells them to do.

The greatest threat to this would be the abandoned CCHA and WCHA schools refusing, out of spite, to give us OOC games.
