ANN ARBOR - A Michigan running back has been suspended from the team indefinitely pending the results of a university police investigation into an on-campus assault early Sunday morning. Mike Milano, 22, of Rocky River, Ohio, a junior walk-on who has yet to play this season, is the player on suspension, Wolverines spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed yesterday. Authorities are looking into an assault that occurred about
2:25 a.m. Sunday - hours after UM lost 13-10 to Toledo. Diane Brown, a police spokesman, said the suspect was identified as a 22-year-old male from Ohio. Brown declined to release the names of the assailant or victim and said there have been no charges or arrests. The victim is believed to be Steve Kampfer, a 20-year-old junior from Jackson, Mich., and a defenseman for the Wolverines' hockey team. Brown confirmed the victim was a 20-year old from Jackson and said he was released from the hospital Monday. Ablauf said UM football coach Rich Rodriguez would not comment while the investigation was ongoing. Milano is a former UM wrestler who joined the football team last season. He played in two games, rushing five times for 23 yards. THREET QUESTIONABLE: Wolverines quarterback Steven Threet (bruised elbow) practiced yesterday wearing a green jersey to signify limited contact. He missed the second half of last week's game due to injury. Rodriguez said he thinks Threet will be available to play against No. 3 Penn State this weekend but said he will start only if his elbow is 100 percent. "If he's 80 percent or something like that, he won't," Rodriguez said.
