2008 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Link

NY Times Quad blog ranks us 3rd:

I don't have the Buckeyes playing for the national title for one reason: I predict Ohio State to lose to U.S.C. in their nonconference matchup, and both major polls - and, therefore, the B.C.S. - will be hesitant to schedule a rematch in the national title game. Which is unfortunate; on paper, the early-season date looks to pit the nation's top two teams, though Georgia will certainly have something to say about that.

Southern California still No. 1 in USA TODAY Top 25 Coaches' Poll - Game on - USATODAY.com

We get leapfrogged by Oklahoma and Florida. Not too surprised. Instead of #1 vs. #2, looks like the media will have to be happy with two top 5 teams playing early in the season.

Now, if we beat USC at their place, and Georgia, Oklahoma, and Florida all do what they're expected to do, can we still pass them all up and get to #1?

We should, I mean USC jumped 2 spots on a win over UVA who beat Richmond (a DII school) 16-0 with 13 of those points in the 4th quarter. If we don't, then I think there's a problem

Interestingly enough, Joe Wilner may have actually been correct in ranking East Carolina high last week. They've now knocked off 3 ranked opponents in a row, going back to last year? I don't expect the Cinderella season to last forever, they'll probably drop a few conference games by the end, but they've definitly had a great start thusfar.

As far as the Buckeyes in the #1 spot, it'll happen with the USC win. I expect the game to be hard fought, and the OSU defense will have to keep them in the game for everything to land correctly. It may come down to Special Teams, if both defenses do a good job of stalemating the offenses.
