2008 Preseason and Regular season Polls

Face it. Not many want to see us prosper or get into the NC game or even come close after the last two.
We will see a lot of sentiment against us for many reasons. The only way to shut them up is to win it.
In the meantime , screw em.

Look at the total votes and first place votes in both polls.

It tells me plenty of people still believe in us but are waiting for the USC game to really jump on the bandwagon.

Imo, if we win that game by 10+ we are #1. I'd personally prefer to stay #2 all year but the votes are pretty close as it is now. If you beat USC on the road and look decent in doing it you have to think a lot of voters will move us up.

All that you say is true but it is just as true that some did not vote us highly because of what I said and more than them as usual because of our NC losses.

Maybe its just me, but I would prefer to be #1 all season long. Who cares what everyone else says. Put the Bulls-eye on our back and lets get out there and prove we are #1.

I disagree. There's something to be said for having doubters in your ear all year long. Look how things worked out two years ago. #1 all year, a pretty damn apathetic showing in the title game. Nothing motivates a team like doubt.

Eh, it's preseason. Georgia won't be #1 when they're 8-4. I'm kind of surprised, however, that the AP voted 21 times for OSU. I figured they'd be a lot more bitter about the past few seasons. Maybe there's hope for humanity yet.

True, but UGA will be the highest ranked 8-4 team in the country, usurping the "honor" previously held by Auburn.

Can someone please explain to me why LSU is ranked 6/7 in the polls? They lost everyone from last year, and don't have a QB who's taken a college snap. They'll have a hard time making it through their creampuff OOC games, let alone the SEC sched.

I understand your logic, but I don't know, maybe its just me growing up a runner and idolizing Steve Prefontaine, I've just been a guy who would rather be up in the front with the ability to control my destiny instead of someone who has to rely on others (in this case other teams) to reach my ultimate goal.

Being #2 instead of #1 is being real picky, and I realize that, but I just don't believe that being #1 all year in 2006 was the reason we played poorly against Florida.

Either point here here is valid in my eyes. I think it depends on the personality and resolve of the team...at the time of the perception of the rating.

I agree with our learned colleague, underoath, that we lost because we played poorly, not because we were rated #1. And furthermore do believe with all my heart, that we were easily the best team in the country the week we beat scUM in '06....and could have/would have pounded anybody, including Urban, the following Saturday. It's the subsequent mindset of the 50-some days later that beat us then, imo.
