Flashback to The Rooster's Tale | Firstcoastnews.com | FSU Seminoles

Ten years ago you had this same scenario. We were supposed to whip the Noles pretty handily, but your unheralded backup QB ran his way to a Nole victory. One of my personal worst games. :tongue2:

They nicknamed your qb - Outzen(sp) the "Rooster." I forget why.

Should be a good one if your cafeteria posse aren't suspended by Friday....and nobody helped Cam Newton steal the freakin' computer. :(

Yes, I understand now. Tough puzzle to figure out. I think they called him the Rooster b/c of his red hair.

I'm confident Bobby will make sure his guys are playing. Right or wrong.

If Bert Reed and Taiwan Easterling are suspended though, my gut feeling is out the window. The 4 and 5 wideout sets aren't nearly as effective without their shake and bake.

Just because I'm nonsensical does not mean that I'm not also obscure.

Good God!!! The Puters have Texas Tech at #4 and UF at #6.

I guess a blocked extra point is worse than a Stoops ass raping. :shake:

Actually, it's more likely that the computers believe that wins over Texas (#2 in BCS) and Oklahoma St. (#12 in BCS) are more impressive than wins over Georgia (#11 in BCS) and LSU (unranked in BCS). Can't say I disagree with that.

I worry that we beat Alabama and still wind up 3.

(Shit! I just lost FSU for us with that statement :smash:)
I wouldn't worry about it for two reasons (assuming the Gators win out):

1. USC will not jump Florida no matter how bad they trounce Ntre Ame and UCLA
2. The pollsters will do the same thing they did in 2006 and not allow a national championship game between 2 conference foes

Florida's SOS will jump enough to make the computer polls close if they beat Alabama.

If Alabama doesn't lose to Auburn and remain undefeated, I don't see how Florida could drop pass the #2 slot. They might even move up to #1 when they beat Alabama. I just don't see anyone stopping the Gators until maybe they reach the NC game.

It's unlikely, but finishing behind Texas is a scenario that Florida can be concerned about. And a tie is actually possible.

If Florida wins out with close games, and Oklahoma wins out impressively, resulting in them getting exactly 3/4 of the human #1 votes, and everybody votes Texas #3, and the computers split between Texas/Oklahoma at #1, and all the computers have Texas Tech #3 and Florida #4, this would be the final BCS standings:

Rk..Team.....Harris.....Coaches...Computers..Total (this is the BCS score - the average of the first 3 numbers)
1..Oklahoma.1..0.9900..1..0.9900..0.980..1..0.9867
2..Texas....3..0.9200..3..0.9200..0.980..1..0.9400
2..Florida..2..0.9700..2..0.9700..0.880..4..0.9400
4..USC......4..0.8800..4..0.8800..0.760..7..0.8400
4..Utah.....5..0.8400..5..0.8400..0.840..5..0.8400
6..Alabama..6..0.8000..6..0.8000..0.800..6..0.8000
7..Tex Tech.8..0.7200..8..0.7200..0.920..3..0.7867
8..Penn St..7..0.7600..7..0.7600..0.720..8..0.7467
9..Boise St.9..0.6800..9..0.6800..0.680..9..0.6800
10.Ohio St.10..0.6400.10..0.6400..0.640.10..0.6400

If that were to happen, here is the BCS's tie-breaking procedure:

Tie-Breaking Procedure

The following steps will be used to resolve any ties in the standings after the computation is carried out to full decimal points:
1. Look to head-to-head result;
2. If the tie is not resolved by paragraph No. 1, then evaluate results against the highest-ranked common opponent in the BCS standings;
3. If the tie is not resolved by paragraph Nos. 1-2, then calculate tied teams' place in BCS Standings using all six computer providers (i.e., do not throw out the high and low computer rankings) and the Harris and Coaches polls; 4. If the tie is not resolved by paragraph Nos. 1-3, then draw.

Since the teams didn't lose to anybody that the other team defeated, if all of the computers had the same ranking, the #2 team could be decided by a 'draw', be that a short straw or a coin flip.

Just remember that you heard it here first. :tongue2:

Gator, you have my permission to post this on a Florida board just to see what happens. :wink2:

Edit - an exact tie would be very difficult, since there are 114 Harris voters and 61 Coaches voters, so it's hard to get even decimals.

Is it wrong for me to want this to happen? I can't imagine a more effective nail in the coffin of the BCS than a coin flip for a NC game bid.

What happens if Oklahoma State beats the Sooners in Stillwater this weekend? Tech then goes to the Big XII title game...what if they win?

Tech would be a one loss Big XII champion ranked below one loss Texas, who didn't even reach the conference title game. Texas' one loss? Tech...does Texas go to the NC game, anyway?

Come on, BCS clusterfuck! :groove:

I think the voters would go for Texas over TTech as a top-2 team in that scenario, to face the Florida-Bama winner. But if Florida loses to FSU and then beats Bama, that opens it up for USC to sneak in there if the voters want to avoid a Texas-TTech rematch.

Yes, then you have Texas Vs. SEC NCG. Unless they changed it in the past couple of years, there is no BCS provision that the NCG teams be conference champs, just that they finish top 2. This happened in '03 (I think) when Ok lost to KState in the B12CG, dropped from 1 to 2 only, then got handled by USC in the NCG.

I really have no problem with this rule either since each conference chooses it's champions differently. Different rules, different tie-breakers, some have co-champs, some don't, some have championship games. I'm not a big fan of conference championship games in general. To think that this year the Mizzu could end up being called Big 12 champion is lame. There is no way that they are the best team in the B12 and it doesn't matter what happens during that game.

Wouldn't that suck for TTech? They beat Tx but watch Tx go to the NCG? Woah Nellie.

I agree, and it would be another indictment of the system. In that scenario, Texas Tech wins the Big XII, beats Texas H2H, and Texas goes to the NC game even though they didn't even win their division in the Big XII.

Apples and oranges. K-State had 3 losses that year. In the case I put forth, Tech and Texas would each have one loss. Tech would be Big XII champ, and beat Texas straight up. For Texas to get the NC bid under those circumstances would be nonsense.

Missouri has nothing to do with it. Again, in the scenario I put forth Tech and Texas would each have one loss. Tech would be Big XII champ, and beat Texas straight up. For Texas to get the NC bid under those circumstances would be nonsense.

College football
BCS title picture remains unclear
Clarity in Big 12 South is key part to resolution

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
What's left

Remaining games for the top five teams in the BCS standings:
No. 1 Alabama

? Saturday vs. Auburn
? Dec. 6 vs. No. 4 Florida, SEC championship game
No. 2 Texas

? Today vs. Texas A&M
? Dec. 6, possibly in Big 12 championship game
No. 3 Oklahoma

? Saturday at No. 12 Oklahoma State
? Dec. 6, possibly in Big 12 championship game
No. 4 Florida

? Saturday at No. 20 Florida State
? Dec. 6 vs. No. 1 Alabama, SEC championship game
No. 5 USC

? Saturday vs. Notre Dame
? Dec. 6 at UCLA

Remember the dramatic end to last year's college football season? The national title chances for Ohio State and LSU looked doomed, until a series of unexpected upsets resurrected those teams and eventually matched them in the national title game.
If you liked last year's twists and turns, chances are that this year will see even more corkscrews. If anything, 2007's convoluted Bowl Championship Series situation might look simple compared with the drama likely to unfold in the next couple of weeks.
Last year, the main BCS problem became one of finding two teams worthy of playing in the championship game. This year, the issue is trying to choose from among several highly qualified teams.

The Coaches poll is out - Oklahoma leads Texas by 1 point. My guess is that the computer bounce they'll get from beating Oklahoma State will be enough for then to end up BCS #2, and thus play Mizzou in the Big 12 CCG. If they win that, they'll play the Bama-Florida winner. If they lose that, Texas should then move into the BCS top 2 and play the Bama-Florida winner.
