COLUMBUS, OH - The 4x400 relay team of Brandon Woodard, Stephen Robinson, Matt Comer and Thomas Murdaugh led the Ohio State men's track and field team on the second day of competition at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., with a blazing time of 3:10.02, the seventh fastest time in the nation so far this season.

"The mile relay was definitely the most exciting event today," Ohio State head coach Robert Gary said after the meet. "Woodard, Comer, Robinson and Murdaugh had an outstanding time -- the seventh fastest in the country this year -- and brought us from a bit back for the win over Michigan State and a strong field."

The 4x400 team wasn't the only highlight of the day for Ohio State, who put together their finest all-around performance on the year. Cory Leslie turned in a third place finish in the mile run with a season best time of 4:07.40, while Thomas Murdaugh continued a torrid start to his freshman campaign with a third-place effort out of 60 competitors in the 400m at 46.69 -- an NCAA provisional mark and personal record for the young Buckeye.

Great times by freshman Murdaugh and the 4x400 team! Further down in the article that is noteworthy:
See Competes in Boston

Ohio State All-American Jeff See was in Boston, Mass. this weekend, representing the Buckeyes in the Boston Indoor Games. In his first major tune-up for the Big Ten season, See took first place in the mile run with a season best time of 4:01.17.

"It was just a great win and a great experience," See said after the race.

I was told that Football guys weren't going to be running until after the spring game. Never the less, that's a great time for Chim. I remember watching James Manley in HS and that man can fly. Good times for Lesley being under 4 10 in a full mile and Dan Whites 1 51 is very good for indoor. Looks like Gary has a fine team all around this year!:osu:

That is what has happened in the past... a couple of guys will do some indoor meets to get track competition under their belt, play spring ball then rejoin the team.

Yeah, some of the older guys get the longer leash on this. Hartline last year did indoor hurdles for example. This year, Chimdi will be in his third season running track so i'm not surprised.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - In final preparation for the Big Ten Indoor Championships next weekend in State College, Pa., the Ohio State men's track and field team competed Friday night in Akron, Ohio at the Zips Invitational.

Led by another excellent performance from the throwing team of Patrick Whalen, Matt DeChant, Max Mays and Tyler Branch, OSU put together a solid effort despite resting several of their top athletes.

"I thought the throwers did a pretty good job tonight for us," head coach Robert Gary said at the conclusion of Friday's action. "Led by Patrick Whalen, they were all around their personal records."

Whalen was the star of the night for the Buckeyes, claiming first place in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 18.01m (59-01.25). He also tossed his way into sixth place in the weight throw at 17.49m (57-04.75).

Can't wait to see how the team does at Big Tens. I really think Murdaugh is a stud in that 400 and could possibly win it at Big Tens.
I believe Jeff See broke 4 minutes last winter in the mile last year. Big Ten looks pretty strong in the mile this year but he should win it IMHO.

jeff see had a stress fracture so he was unable to compete; here's hoping he gets healthy. that was an easy 10 points (conservative estimate), which would have put them in 3rd maybe 2nd. overall a really good performance--congratulations to the team. these young kids will only get better as outdoor progresses...this spring will be very exciting!

COLUMBUS, Ohio -
Fueled by a victory in the 4x400m relay, the Ohio State men's track and field team took fourth place Sunday at the 2009 Big Ten Indoor Championships with a score of 77.50, finishing a half point behind third place Penn State. Minnesota took home the title with 135 points.

The 4x400 team of Brandon Woodard, Matt Comer, Stephen Robinson and Thomas Murdaugh defended Ohio State's 2008 triumph in the same event with an NCAA provisional time of 3:08.73, the top time in the Big Ten on the year. Illinois, the team that held the previous conference best time, finished second, almost three seconds behind the Buckeyes.

"We had a great day," Ohio State head coach Robert Gary said at the conclusion of the competition. "Our sprinters really led the way along with a couple field of our field event guys. Ending the meet by defending the 4x400 title was awesome."

Thomas Murdaugh was among those sprinters sparking the Buckeye effort Sunday. The freshman from Dublin, Ohio placed second in the 400m dash finals in an NCAA provisional time of 46.67. Gakologelwang Masheto, a senior from Illinois, bested the young phenom by .13 seconds. Matt Comer took eighth with a time of 48.87.

I was not aware See has a stress fracture... I hope he can recover quickly for outdoor.

That sucks for the team and Jeff. It would have been nice to get those points and finish a little higher in the standings. I wonder how long he has had this stress fracture. For a middle distance runner, this is not a good thing. Hopefully, he will mend quickly and be able to help the team outdoors.

let me clarify: the impression i got was jeff needs some rest but they fully expect him to be ok. my apologies if i worried anyone. unfortunately, however, elon simms is out for the rest of the year.

the team left 6 scholarship athletes at home for indoors for various reasons. those athletes had at least 33pts last year in outdoor or indoor and pat woods is killing it in the hep with his new coach. needless to say it's full speed ahead for outdoor.
