You would think they would take the athletes health into consideration when considering a Big 10 championship. Breathing the air up around there:! certainly would not be good for a person's vital capacity.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - With five of the 10 teams competing at the 2008 Big Ten Championships ranked in the Top 30 in the country, Ohio State knew it was in for a battle this weekend at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Buckeyes finished eighth overall and were paced by two freshman runners.

Ohio State, who is redshirting most of its freshman and other top distance runners this season, was led by redshirt freshman Taylor Williams who has paced the Buckeyes all season long.

Wisconsin Badgers finished first with 40 teams points, holding off the surging Michigan Wolverines, who finished with 57 team points.

Final Team Standings
1. Wisconsin - 40
2. Michigan - 57
3. Minnesota - 60
4. Penn State - 133
5. Indiana - 135
6. Michigan State - 138
7. Iowa - 169
8. Ohio State - 209
9. Illinois - 252
10.Purdue - 296

I would say my predictions weren't too bad. Places 3-5 were only separated by 5 points and that's just a couple of places difference which can come down to one runner with a great finish and another being passed down the home stretch.

I see the Buckeyes finishing towards the bottom of the pack this year (hopefully I'm wrong). My prediction:

1. Wisconsin
2. Michigan
3. Minnesota
4. Michigan State
5. Penn State
6. Indiana
7. Ohio State
8. Iowa
9. Illinois
10. Purdue

That damn air up north will get you every time. Well, maybe a 2-3 years we will finish in the top tier. Northwestern doesn't even have a team which is interesting because it certainly would not cost much. I just don't understand why we are better. I know that we are young but our prior coach must not have cared who or how he recruited:(

I have a feeling that Gary is building towards next year... he redshirted all his freshman this year and Jeff See still has one more year of eligibility for XC left. It wouldn't surprise me to see this team back in the top 4 next year.

Redshirt freshman has settled in at Ohio State and is on the run
by Drew Sullivan

Taylor Williams has made a name for himself one year into his Ohio State running career. And Williams is only one year removed from a time when he said he wouldn't even have been in a scoring position on the cross-country team.

But as the seasons have changed at Ohio State, so has the mindset of the redshirt freshman.

"I was definitely thinking about doing really well this cross country season and it was kind of a goal for myself," Williams said. "I think this turnout may be a little bit better than I expected in terms of fitness and everything, but it's definitely within what I saw myself doing this season."

William's breakout year has been nothing short of spectacular. The Sycamore, Ohio, native has been the Buckeyes' go-to runner through the Big Ten Championship meet this season, leading the team in all five out of the six races in which he has participated.

Ohio State awaits announcement of possible at-large bid to NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio
-
For the first time all season, the Buckeyes were up against more than the competition Saturday at the NCAA Regional Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.

But despite the cold temperatures, the men finished eighth in the 28-team field in the 10K race at the Great Lakes Regional meet and have left themselves with an outside chance at making the NCAA Championships. They will await an announcement of a possible at-large bid in order to qualify for the national meet and will hope to be one of the 13 teams from all nine regions to earn a spot to Terre Haute, Ind.

The Buckeyes were led once again by Taylor Williams at the regional meet. The freshman also has a possibility to make it to the NCAA Championships with his 25th-place finish in 32:05 on the Purdue Varsity Cross Country Course at Purdue University. Ohio State will find out if they qualified for the national meet as a team or if Williams did as an individual either Sunday or Monday.

Oregon always has been a powerhouse when it has come to long distance running. Steve P was one of my all-time favorites when they came to any sport.

Ohio State takes a 2-1 series lead, will host the outdoor Dual April 11 in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio
- The Ohio State men's track and field team put on an emotional and all-around impressive performance in defeating its rival and 17th-ranked Michigan, 85-77, Saturday afternoon at the U-M Indoor Track Building in Ann Arbor, Mich.

With the victory, the Buckeyes take a 2-1 lead in the series with three meetings remaining in the three-year agreement. Michigan won the first event last January before the Buckeyes won the outdoor event last April and again today. More importantly, the Buckeyes hold on to the traveling Dual pennant.

Ohio State will host the Wolverines during the outdoor season April 11 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

"I was very pleased with the entire team," head coach Robert Gary said. "We had a bunch of fantastic performances and I was real happy with the competitiveness of our team. The Dual is a great concept and rewards balanced teams-every event contributes to the score."

Notable highlights pointed out by Coach Gary were Jeff See's double win in the mile and 3000m runs, Stephen Robinson's upset of All-American Adam Harris in the 200m, Brandon Woodard's win in the 600m, Patrick Whalen's win in the shot put and second-place finish in the weight throw and freshman Thomas Murdaugh's win in the 400m.

for those of you who like the football player updates: chimdi is running indoor and outdoor, thomas was at the track meeting and the hout invitational so it looks like he'll be at outdoor. saine was rumored but i think they nixed that and want him resting his knee.

the 4x100 depth with chimdi and thomas will be good for outdoor big tens (which are at home this year). i wonder with the big tens at home this year, that gary doesn't go all out and try to get a few more guys for jumps and other sprints/mid distance for depth. they return the most points out of the big10 from last year in outdoor i believe. beating #17 mich in the dual was a huge start to fulfilling the big expectations the team has for itself. that was such a great idea to tap that rivalry b/c the team gets amped up for that meet.

I am certainly not the expert:wink2: on the Ohio State track team but I highly doubt it if they will bring someone for the "jumps". Well speed does play a factor, there is also a lot of technique involved in the jumping events and I think the same goes for sprints and relays. I would think that if the football players do not participate in many track practices I doubt if they will be allowed to run IMO
