Other notes of interest from the Media Day (Quick Hits -AA News)

Marques Slocum is finally (2 years away from football) academically eligible - this way for the General Studies program Marques.
Dismissed TE Carson Butler may be able to return to the team at some time.

Brandon Graham has dropped from 300+ to 262 pounds - thus avoiding a permanent move to interior defensive line, he will remain a DE.

Kicker Bryan Wright (out of Salem, Ohio) has been getting good reviews.

Oh and more on the Mallett love fest - but that has it's own thread.

He was enrolled at Michigan in order to become eligible for the football team. Not sure if that means he already started in that program.

possible, not probable

And a wunderchild on NCAA Football 2008.
Kicker Bryan Wright (out of Salem, Ohio) has been getting good reviews.
Interesting. He has a great leg, but I have heard a lot of worries regarding his consistency heading into the season.

As for your size argument:

Brennan is 6'3", 205
Henne is 6'3", 220

So the NFL will pick Henne over Brennan because he's 15 pounds heavier? We all know how immobile Henne is, and folks who've seen Brennan play knows that while he's no Troy Smith he can move pretty well. If anything, Brennan will get the nod due to his mobility (not to mention his far superior pasing skills).

As for the "system" argument, Hawaii's system better prepares a QB for the NFL than does Michigan's. Hawaii throws far more passes out of far more formations than does Michigan. The reason why Hawaii hasn't put as many QBs into the NFL as has Michigan is that Michigan gets the higher level of talent at QB. But Brennan has changed that...

Yes, the NFL will like Henne's size significantly more than Brennan's......Henne has a much better frame than Brennan, I don't think its even debatable

As for the ystem, look what happened when Quinn played in an NFL system....yes Hawaii wings it around but so does Texas Tech, it doesn;t translate into an NFL system...Michigan runs a Pro-Style offense and coordinators like than when analyzing QB's for the next level

We can re-visit this after the season, but I guarantee Henne gets taken before Brennan and probably in the first round

Thanks for the pics. Maybe Trent being bigger may mean he won't be one of the worst corners in America this year. Probably not, but maybe.

I can't figure out if Trent is just afraid to hit someone or what but there's so many times I see him jump past the person he's chasing or just falling down.

I'm going with choice C) he just isn't very athletic and he plays a position that puts a premium on atheticisim.

This is true of most tsun defensive players because, as we've discussed here for a few years now, Carr seems to want players that fit the mold of stopping his offense(big and strong) not what the rest of CFB is doing(recruiting guys who play well in space). If thats not the specific recruiting plan then its due to poor development but the fact remains, tsuns defensive players struggle anytime you spread them out and make them play in space.

The only 2 guys I felt were real players off that tsun defense from '06 were Harris and Woodley.

Trent is their best DB. Gonna be a long year for the Blue. Can't figure out how everybody overlooks the returning talent (or lack thereof) they have on D.

Trent is most definitely not our best DB. Turns out we have a SS who's pretty good named Jamar Adams. Hell, Stevie Brown hasn't even played at FS yet and he's better than Trent, and I'd be willing to put a lot of money on the fact that Donovan Warren is much better than Trent. If all goes well Trent will be the nickel or worse by week 3.

Media Day Presser Transcript - Lloyd Carr

Some notable quotes:
Lloyd Carr said:
"Weaknesses? Just me. Why do I say that? I'm old.(Laughing)"
The things that impact the defense are your offense and the field position that is created by your special teams. I like our enthusiasm. They read the paper. They know what people are saying about our defense. I think that is a motivating factor. We are going to play some young players. What I expect is that we'll get better as the season goes on. I certainly hope so."
"That's something we stress every year. It's something that is certainly a goal. The disappointments we had will motivate us. Hopefully we'll be better at the end of the season than we have been."
This can't be the most comforting approach for UM fans.
On how much longer he plans to coach:
"What I really want to do is focus on this season.
On the 10-year anniversary of the 1997 national championship:
"It seems like forever.
Agreed. The shine has been wearing off for awhile.

I'll bet Warren is their best CB this year; in fact, he probably fills that void better than Rojo would have. Their CB depth will be thin this year though, they better hope Warren and Cissoko make a hell of a tandem in the future. I just hope we have the right QB to attack their lack of depth at CB this year.

I fully expect Cissoko and Warren to make a shutdown tandem in the future (or hope anyway). Cissoko has unreal man to man ability, doesn't play his size. I'm a big Warren guy myself and I think he will step in and do a good job. Seems like we have to rely on freshmen a lot (Warren, Michael Williams) because Trent and Sears suck. Luckily for us you have about as much unproven talent at WR. Robiskie is good but still relatively unproven.
