Report: Florida wide receiver verbally commits to U-M

The Michigan football team received its ninth oral commitment, Apopka, Fla., wide receiver Jeremy Gallon, according to recruiting websites TheWolverine.com and GoBlueWolverine.com.

Both reported that the 5-foot-8, 164-pounder committed Thursday afternoon.

TheWolverine said Gallon was also considering Auburn, Florida International, Alabama-Birmingham, Kansas, Central Florida, Iowa State and Iowa.

He told TheWolverine that he will play running back and slot receiver.

Ranked as the No. 74 player in the country by Rivals.com and the No. 5 athlete, he rates as a four-star recruit.

Only three of U-M's previous eight commitments (William Campbell, Justin Turner, and Bryce McNeal) are rated ahead of him nationally.

He is the class' first commitment from Florida.

That is like the 9th-10th 3rd down back-slot reciever type that Mich. has picked up since the first of the year. I am sold on the idea that between meeting with lawyers and " interviewing" Mich. cheerleaders that RR listens to alot of that ESPN jibberish that fills the air. RR seems to indeed be convinced that there is no SEC speed in the north, and a team of scat-backs and smurfs will run rough-shod over(actually around) all of the slow footed defenders in the Big Ten. Maybe all the meal money they will save with all these elusive types can help offset the cost of the RR buyout.

The Michigan faithful better get ready for a fall. Bullard will be verballing to Tennessee or ND ...thats another top prospect verballing to another school. I know they took 6 OL last year but their prospects for this year are dropping like flies. RR is focusing on offense skill positions and QB wayyyyy to much. ON GBW there are many Scummers that are getting worried.

Its great to have skill players but you need a line and defenders. This is awesome that he keeps taking WR's and RB's. Getting Gallon is great but how many RB's and WR's do you need. He neglecting his defense and its wonderful.

Hes gonna find out really fast that the B10 is a hell of alot better than the Beast.

Well considering we were never in Bullard's Top 2, it was ALWAYS Notre Dame and Tennessee, or some combination that did not include Michigan, it's not a big fall. Everybody's expecting him to verbal to Tennessee, and if there's a surprise it's him going to Notre Dame. And about them worried, I don't really care. As far as I know, signing day isn't June 6th, recruiting's not a race, if u fill up ur class in June, or you fill up your class in January, it's still full. When RR gets the OL and DE commits later in the year, they'll be like wow, I bitched and worried the whole year for nothing.

They have a legitimate reason to be shitting themself when you look at how OSU is recruiting this year after the class we had last year. I don't want to hear shit about your class last year because I watched your recruits play in the AA games and came away unimpressed, whereas, the Buckeye commits kicked serious ass in all three. BTW Cissoko will get torched by the taller WR's I would move him to SS ala Bob Sanders...he needs to gain some serious size for that.

Looking at your recruiting board on the various sites I see that your not leading for too many prospects especially defensive players. If your not concerned you need a reality check. Half your roster being offensive skill players and QB's will not do you too much in the B10...MAYBE IN THE BE

You guys have no imagination. UM is doing fine on OL recruiting.

In fact that is where Gallon will play as RR continues to evolve his spread. Imagine the egg on JT's face as Gallon races down field with the ball on a tackle eligible play.

Anyone else find it odd Gallon is a top 100 recruit when his only other good offer appears to have been Auburn?

Seems kind of off.

With that said, I can't wait to see Michigan's final defensive line class this year. They have a HUGE need for defensive ends, and so far they don't really appear to be leading for any of the ones they've offered. I know some are holding out hope for Roh, but he seems more likely for Notre Dame than Michigan.

Should be an interesting class make up.

Also, more proof that James Jackson wasn't a loss. They already had plenty of slot types...

I agree with Michigan fans that James Jackson is not a loss for them as far as a position player. Where he is a huge loss is that OSU picked him up and that will help us and our needs. It also helps us build even more relationships with players and coaches in the state of Michigan. If MSU and OSU gobble up the top players in Michigan every year thats gonna hurt...heck OSU leads for the two top 100 players from Michigan for 2010...they can sugar coat this any way they like but they are in serious trouble if you look at the way dickrod is recruiting. If it wasn't for LLoyd recruiting all those defensive players last year they wouldn't have gotten some of those linebackers/defensive players. IMO Lloyd will be considered alot better recruiter than trickydick.

I think Napoleon was being a bit sarcastic. Michigan fans were saying how James Jackson wasn't a loss because of all the slot players they already had and then they turn around and get ANOTHER one.

At least that is how I read it.
