Yeah, hilarious. Sheridan may have been a clipboard stand in a past life, but there's no need to denigrate walk-ons like you are. Al Groh says it best - walk-ons aren't necessarily under-talented, just under-evaluated. Why assume that if Sheridan wins the job, it's due to everyone else's incompetence rather than anything he did?

I have two questions.

First, do you really think that a top program like yours should ever be in a position that it has to use a walk-on quarterback as a starter? I respect anyone who ever made a college team, any college team, for their participation and skills. But, really...well, HTM, that raises my second question.

Second, is it painful when a TSUN fan looks at the world through rose-colored glasses...

and sees that everything is scarlet and gray? :osu:

DFP: RR interview, part 2 - On the running game, receivers

Trying to get out of the news - you and Brittany both... :slappy:

Man... this guy's got warm-fuzzy exuding out of every pore in his body!

Rich Rodriguez interview Part 2: On the running game, receivers

April 10, 2008

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez spoke with reporters this week about a variety of spring football topics. Here is Part 2 of the interview:

On all the national media exposure he's had:

I'm trying to get out of the news. A lot of it has been things that haven't been pleasant. Let's just talk about the positive things and Michigan football, all that other drama is like National Enquirer-type stuff. When it's an opportunity for us to give exposure our program positively in a national spotlight then sure, we want to do that.

[...]

On which offensive linemen have provided leadership:

I've seen David Moosman and Steve Schilling in part, those guys have provided some leadership and had solid springs and Mark Ortmann has had a pretty solid spring so I've been pleased with that. We?ve lost a lot of experience there of course.

[...]

On Carlos Brown and his injury:

Probably the biggest disappointment of spring is not getting him a lot of reps and seeing what he can do offensively, I mean it's a pretty serious injury and he should be okay in a month or two but you know, we're still unsure about what his role's going to be. But we know he's a talented guy and he's going to help us for sure.

On how Kevin Grady fits in:

Kevin's playing tailback and he's got enough skills to do that, and he's also a 225-pound guy and he's a tough guy, you know, he'll stick his face in there. So I'm very excited, he's going to be able to play a lot of different roles for us. One thing I like about Kevin and not just him but a lot of our guys, but he loves the game and has a lot of passion like some of those other guys like Tim Jamison. I wish they all had that same passion but I'm excited about it.

[...]

On players possibly questioning his system:

I told them I wasn't relly interested in their opinion, but when we get in a group setting in all that I'm not going to play. I'm not an "Okay what do y'all think, touchy-feely... I'm not one of them, "Are your feelings okay today, how are you emotionally (kind of guys)?" You know, it's time to work, blow the whistle and let's go. If they're having a bad day leave it across the field, outside the lines, let's work. I'm not going to give them the number to Oprah or Dr. Phil to let them express their feelings, I don't care.

What a quality human being.

It's unfortunate that any team should have a coach who doesn't care about the kids. At least act like you do. These are kids.. not full-grown adults. Some of them might want (or need) some guidance.

But Rich Rodriguez doesn't care. He's a bad ass.

How many games do you think UM would win with Sheridan under center? And if he won the starting gig, do you expect him to stay under center the following season?

Steve beat me to it. We're not talking about some podunk football program that can't attract top-notch QBs to its program, we're talking about the all-time winningest program (both in numbers and percentage) in college football and one renown for putting QBs in the NFL. The fact that the University of Michigan should have to resort to having a walk-on start at QB should be stunningly embarrassing to Michigan fans.

I have no idea if NCAA rules would allow this to happen but, why would Armanti Edwards want to go to Michigan and win a handful of games when he can win another title at App St.

This is a good question. I couldn't find the answer using my elite Google-Fu skills.

Can a player transfer to Div 1-A from Div 1-AA? Would they lose a year of eligibility and have to sit out a year? I've heard of JC transfers, and plenty of transfers down in Division, but none up.

If I was RR, I would try to poach the entire App State team.

Well said by both Steve and Mili.

Playing devils advocate, the following players were walk-ons at tOSU

Antonio Smith
Terry Glenn
Big Daddy Wilkinson

and a grey shirt (Boeckman) is only a half-step above a preferred walk-on

If it is possible for a 5* recruit to never break the 2-deep (which happens from time to time) why can't the reverse be true?

a full ride scholarship player that waits a year to enroll but still practices with the team is a little more than a half step above a walk on... I'd say it's closer to a sixty-fourth step below a normal scholarship player
