By UM standards, a 6-6 season is stunningly embarrassing... or humbling, whatever you want to call it. RR has to beat MSU & PSU this year (both toss-ups imo), and OSU next season... or his seat will get quite hot.
So your worst case record is 7-5? 3-2 might be a safe prediction vs that middle set, but I wouldn't feel good about a W against anyone but Purdue in that list.

"Humbling" might be a fair word, but I doubt you guys will find us Michigan fans very humble even if we go 6-6 :wink:

I do think 7-5 (or maybe 6-6) is the worst-case. There's still plenty enough talent not to go 4-8. This is still Michigan. Don't mean that in a "Michigan never goes 4-8" sense, but last year's team did manage 10-3 and there're a lot of returnees.

What practice reports or practice video led to these thoughts? Or is this simply rooted in hope?

Mostly hope, and some reflex reaction against the automatic notion that Sheridan can't win the job on his own merit. RR has said some positive things about Sheridan and Threet, how they've done very well picking up the offense. Looking back on Sheridan, we know much less about him than the other QB's in the mix, and that alone shouldn't necessarily be a reason to be embarrassed to see him line up under center.

I realize Mallett was the QB after Henne....that's why I included him. It's Michigan's fault that he left, so no whining about that is allowed. It's Michigan's fault there's no backup behind Mallett. What would have happened if Troy Smith left early? Justin Zwick. What would have happened if Boeckman left early? Bauserman, Henton, Pryor. What would have happened if Krenzel left early? McMullen.

The system change doesn't fly.....since I believe the walkon is a pocket passer, right? It's not like Michigan had the backup plans in place but the walkon better fits DickRod's system, right? A walkon is poised to take the starting quarterback job at the University of Michigan. That is embarrassing.

Joe Bauserman, the freshman walk-on? The irony is suffocating.

So at Michigan, it's "embarrassing" to have a back-up plan involving a redshirt junior walk-on in the mix with a scholarship redshirt junior and a scholarship redshirt freshman. But at Ohio State, it's a great thing to have a back-up plan involving a freshman walk-on who hasn't seen a football field in three years in the mix with a scholarship redshirt sophomore and a scholarship true freshman.

I don't know what's funnier, the irony of the above, or the fact that you'd mention Bauserman as if he really would have a shot at the job if Boeckman blows an Achilles tendon. If so, then you can join me in the Embarrassment Box.

Anyway, yes, it's Michigan's "fault" that Mallett left, as if that's some kind of indictment or anything I ought to hang my head about.

No, not really at all. The ignorance on your part is. Tennessee, OSU and others offered him a scholarship in 03. He was drafted by the Pirates, and his contract with them pays for his current scholarship.

There is no comparison between the QB ability of Bauserman and Sheridan.

Sheridan is in the mix to start because he's the only QB on roster with any semblance of ability to run like RR wants, not because he's a b10 caliber starting QB.

Bauserman is only a walk-on because he played baseball out of h.s. He had a scholly waiting for him 3 years ago and opted for baseball. He isn't a walk-on in the sense of not being good enough to earn a scholly. You realize there is a huge difference I assume.

Now you're getting stupid. Bauserman is not a freshman in the normal sense...this is his second year (technically a redshirt freshman) but he spent several years in moinor league baseball. He also accepted a scholarship offer from us in 2004 but chose to pursue baseball instead...he is only a "walk-on" because his minor league team is paying for his tuition and thus is not on scholarship (he would be had he not pursued pro baseball).

The only irony is your continuing defense of your dire situation at QB.

Sure, he isn't on scholarship because his baseball contract is paying for his schooling. He was a minor league baseball player. We did offer him a scholarship out of high school, though.
