What alot of people are forgetting is that RR has alot of talented players that already existed at Michigan but they don't fit his system...Mallett is an example. He will tear shit up in Patrinos spread system. RR isn't recruitng 5* athletes on offense because he will not be able to utilize pro style players in his offense. Michigans fans are braggin about WR's they stole from Purdue and Players they stole from the MAC...GMAFB.

Their pro set system went down the fucking tubes when he came. The days of sending protypical NFL QB's to the league are over!!! The same can be said with OL. He needs undersized guys to fit his system.

Defense is another matter. I get the feeling they will be going to a 3-4 defense in a year or two. Once again this will affect how many players go to the league.

They better pray that this guy works out or they are fucked. If his system doesn't work in the B10 or doesn't get better results than they had the last 7 years they will get rid of RR and have to get another coach. If his sytem is different than RR's then they will have a 1-2 year transition again.

I love how they brag about getting 7 Ohio kids...1 was offered by OSU. Koger will never play a down of TE if the Michigan coaches are smart. That kid is a future AC DE.

RR better get on his horse because OSU is already tearing shit up in Ohio for 2009 and the Zooker is coming with his gun's blazing.

Well most rational Michigan fans aren't. It was a decent grab, but nothing to special. Considering most Michigan fans never heard of the guy until we started showing interest in him a couple weeks, we didn't think much of getting him. To be honest, I wondered why we went after him. He's not the fastest in the world at a 4.5, and he's not the biggest at 6-2 160. He's the candidate with the greatest shot at redshirting this year.

RR isn't recruitng 5* athletes on offense because he will not be able to utilize pro style players in his offense.
He wasn't recruiting 5* athletes because almost all of them were committed already. He had a mere 2 months to hold the previous class together, and start recruiting new guys for his system. Next year he's already going after Russell Sheppard (who is probably going to Texas), Ronnie Wingo, and other talented players. I'm not saying he's going to bring in amazing classes, but he's not going to have to recruit 2* and 3* as he did at WVU. The Michigan name sells itself to many players.

What alot of people are forgetting is that RR has alot of talented players that already existed at Michigan but they don't fit his system...Mallett is an example. He will tear shit up in Patrinos spread system.
Rich Rod and some of his offensive coaches were at Missouri studying the way they used Chase Daniels in their spread offense. While Daniels is pretty athletic for a QB, their style of spread offense didn't need a mobile QB. With Threet next season the offense will be more tailored towards Mizzou's then towards WVU's. The QB will get rid of the ball to his playmakers working in open space, instead of having the QB have to run the ball.

I'm not singling you out, but that's a common misconception with the spread offense. The size is not the issue on the O-line, it's the speed and quickness of the O-Line. Regardless of whether your 260 pounds or 330 pounds, if you can get to the second level and pick up blocks you can operate in a spread offensive line. While I agree with you in the respects that we won't see Michigan with any more 330+ beasts on the o-line, you'll still see many lineman around 290- 300 pounds.

Defense is another matter. I get the feeling they will be going to a 3-4 defense in a year or two. Once again this will affect how many players go to the league.
Scott Shafer our defensive coordinator is not tied to any scheme. He is a type of coach who uses any formation to utilize all the weapons. He has already announced that our team will run the 4-3, 3-4, and 3-3-5 in any game situation. Our defensive recruiting will pretty much stay the same. We'll recruit big bulky LBs for the powerful run offenses in the Big 10 (OSU and Wisconsin) as well as the strong, quick defensive lineman. One difference will be the play of the secondary. Our defense will be more aggressive in the respects of blitzing and bump and run coverage. Off the corner, from the safety spot, any player can come on any play.

I think on a different year when Ohio State had more offers then the 20? (somebody correct me please) that they had, they would have offered a few of these players. However, it's moreso the fact that we're in the state of Ohio establishing relationships with schools and coaches then just getting 7 Ohio kids. Without Ohio, Michigan's history would be helluva lot worse then it is. Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson are just a few of the great Michigan players that came out of Ohio. But on the subject of players not getting OSU offers, Vernon Gholston was from Michigan and didn't get his Michigan offer til he was ready to commit to OSU, how'd he turn out? Pretty damn good lol, so one team not offering a player that the other team offered isn't as big as most people make it out to be. And for your Kevin Koger comment, I do want to see him at DE. With the loss of Nick Perry it wouldn't surprise me if he got moved to DE but I think they'll keep him at TE.

RR better get on his horse because OSU is already tearing shit up in Ohio for 2009 and the Zooker is coming with his gun's blazing.
You're right on this subject, so he's already started. He/his assistant coaches have already visited Russell Sheppard, Aaron Murphy, and are working on a few more prospects.

To Brutus2002, I hope this doesn't seem like I'm flaming or attacking you. I just felt like I needed to get a point across at a few statements that you made.

Vernon received his Michigan Offer on 9/13/2003 - committed to the Buckeyes 1/15/2004.

The only reason for any delay on TSUN's part was that they wanted to see more of his play in his Senior season - not an unreasonable stance to take.

The Buckeyes saw all they needed for his potential at their summer camp and had offered him at that time.

Yeah my bad, I looked it up after I wrote it and got it wrong. But it was an error on Michigan's part. They went after Tim Jamison harder then they did Gholston. They thought Gholston was maxed out potentially (yeah yeah yeah I know they were so wrong it's not even funny) and so they got an offer but he wasn't a priority like Jamison.

I'm not downplaying Gholston, he's awesome as hell and destroyed the UM line this year and I wished we would have shown more interest in him, but he wasn't Michigan's top choice at DE. So once again, it was an error on their part.

I know your only sticking up for your squad like any good fan should. When I say Michigan fans you and Three7 are exceptions and I'm not singling you guys out. I just think most Michigan fans don't realize some of the points I made. You made some valid points as well but I had already taken them into consideration. I think Michigan sold their souls and might be in big trouble. That Pryor Basket RR put all his eggs in has a big flippin hole in it.

A player is never bigger than the program he may or not choose to play for. Remember, this is a High School prospect. A good one, but still a prospect. While I don't think UM is out of the running completely as some suggest, UM will survive regardless of his decision.

Highest priority of recruits by position for UM in '09:
1. DE
2. QB (assuming no TP in '08)
3. OL (specifically OT)
4. DT (already secured one super in Will Campbell)
5. CB/S (depending on where JT Floyd plays)
6. LB
7. WR
8. RB

The point about 2 months and holding a class together is valid. It's hard to take much from RRs 1st class, just as it is about Tressel's first (2001) Next year will be a better read on what kind of athletes RRs going to truly be seeking... I imagine they'll be "top of the list" guys and less "hidden gem"

Yeah I'd say that looks about right. Most of the OL prospects we got are OG prospects, and QB is definitely a major need. Will Campbell is an absolute stud I just hope we hang onto him.

If I were an unbiased observer to the situation in Ann Arbor, it would be intriguing to watch the progression of TTUN over the next 5-8 years.

A lot, if not most people do not think that the speed option that rr likes to employ will equate with players advancing to the NFL. With the potential talent that UM can pull in, will this change?

If UM recruits well early yet does not send enough guys to the NFL I surely think that this would really hurt the skunkbears later in trying to continue to bring in elite talent. If that happens, I don't think that UM can be an elite team without elite talent as in the elapsed time the B10's defenses will have adjusted to rr's attack.

If on the other hand the prospects that UM brings in progress and make it to the NFL despite playing in a different scheme than is the norm in the pro's, then rr will be a force to be reckoned for a long time to come in AA.

Just throwing out some long term type speculation trawling for opinions.

I don't see where the continued slide of tsun into the abyss of nothingness over the next 5 -8 years will be very interesting. :wink2:

I imagined a slow turning whirlpool with tsun in it and slowly going, going, going .......

I've always heard that when those below the equator flush, it goes counter-clockwise  Either way it ends the same way.

Wow, DE a bigger priority than QB. You guys must be REALLY hurting there.

It's been said a few times already, but switch Koger to DE. You guys don't know what your missing there. Plus, you already have Moore in that class and TE isn't even on your priority list.
