I doubt it. From everything I've seen Shephard wants to be a Longhorn more than he wants to be a QB.
Yeah, he even said he wouldn't mind changing a position to WR there. But I guess he changed his mind, based on this article:

?I would say Texas is still up there, but Michigan is really at the top of my list, especially if they don?t get (2008 top recruit) Terrelle Pryor,? he said.

And we all know Michigan's shot at Pryor is practically zero, so all aboard on Sheppard. We still have two backup plans to him as well, Newton and Newsome.

Fiutak's take on the TSUN class of 2008:

cfn

2. Michigan

The class is heavy on ... Running backs. There might not be any quarterbacks coming in, hoping for Terrelle Pryor will be the man to run the Rich Rodriguez attack, but the backfield is more than loaded with good running backs who fit the system. Sam McGuffie is a small, quick back, Terrence Robinson is a small, lightning fast runner, and Michael Shaw and Mike Cox can also move. For anyone who thought the new offense would mean the top receivers would stay away, think again. Daryl Stonum, Martavious Odoms and Roy Roundtree are as good as any recent trio brought in.

The player who'll someday be a really big deal ... CB Boubacar Cissoko

The player you might care about this year ... RB Sam McGuffie

What it all means to the real world of college football ... Everything is there but the quarterback. This is a stronger class than any Rodriguez ever got at West Virginia. He brought in the building blocks for the future with a great line, an excellent secondary, and running backs and receivers who'll make the rest of the Big Ten quake. If Pryor signs, then all of a sudden this class goes from excellent to special.

I like the quote, but until he VISITS UM, I think he ends up at UT... Texas just doesn't let top talent walk away from the state... Heck, supposedly Mack Brown was in McGuffie's HS during the last few weeks of the recruiting season.

Um, no. Before the system switch, '07 was better imo (Clemons, Hemingway, Babb), and '05 was light years ahead of both (Bass, Manningham, Savoy). We all know Mario, but Bass was hailed as their most gifted athlete since Woodson. Scouts were drooling over his potential before his injury.

And to think if a certain Ron English would have won the argument with Soup Campbell and Lloyd about taking Desean Jackson over Savoy... or so the story goes...

Interesting, I remember during the Cooper era players would make comments like "It's just another game, we don't even refer to them as Ohio State, they are just Ohio" or "that game isn't even the toughest we play" etc...

Funny what being on the losing end will do to change your perspective on things.
GPfuckingA

"Ohio University is our rival, we have to compete with them for in-state talent. How can it be a rivalry when you win all the time?"

Sound familiar scUM fans?

My take on this from CFN;

Uh, I think that this years tOSU class is better than any in the Big Least, since Miami left, and this years Illinois class may be as well, so to compare this years scUM class to any at WVU is inane and pointless. Another point is that most of the Blue Chippers were secured before rr took over, not saying he won't recruit well, but he only deserves a modicum of credit for securing verbals, more though on keeping most of VLloyds work intact.

Time will tell about his recruiting at scUM, will his "interesting" tactics work with normal UM quality kids or will they be turned off by questions about making it to the NFL and the apparent trustworthiness question some recruits, parents and former players have expressed?

Bass was so quick pre shattering his knee. Such a shame for a talented kid like himself to see his potential go down the shitter due to something that wasn't really his fault.

Hemingway reminds me of Braylon though. The kid can jump, for sure.

Then the real question would be "can he catch a 3rd/4th and 1 pass?"

Why is it inane and pointless? It's comparing a coach's classes at one school with his class at another school.

Plus, 10 of the 24 players in the class are RR recruits, so I think he deserves more than a "modicum" of credit for getting signatures. And keeping Lloyd's class almost entirely intact is a feat in and of itself. How often do you see an earthquake of a coaching change that doesn't devastate the recruiting class? Two decommits, one after RR was hired, and that's it - that's pretty good and if you don't believe me, take a look at Nebraska's class.

There is some inanity to it since, no offense to WVU and the Big East, but scUM and the Big Ten may be perceived as being a little more prestigious, respectively.

And lay off the hyperbole by referring to this as "an earthquake of a coaching change". If Lllllloyd had been canned and was replaced by a coach from a 1AA in-state school, then you could possibly claim there was a "tremor", but even then "earthquake" is fairly ridiculous.

HTM you obviously know Michigan recruiting better than I, so correct me if I'm wrong, but here are the facts that I see.

RR accountable for 9 recruits (Odoms, Shaw, Roundtree, Barnum, Omameh, Robinson, Feagin, Floyd, Hill) avg. star rating scout 3.22

overall star ranking of all 25 recruits 3.56 (lloyd's 16 recruits had an avg. ranking of 3.75)

2 decommitts (Weinke, Wilson)

we all know that stars only have value for recruitniks, and the real success of the class won't be measured for a few years, however on the surface it looks like the majority of credit for this class should be given to Lloyd.

True but RR will get all the credit for losing to tOSU for years with them.
