2007 tOSU Spring Practice (official thread)

Dukes has returned punts in practice, but just has not taken any in games.. Gosh that sucks bout beanie. We really have NO depth right now at tailback. It's Beanie and Maurice Wells and the freshman don't get here till August. So looks like our defense might not get to practice much run defense..

How about Lane, Robinson, Gantz and Christian? I'm sure that Johnson and Olson will also get carries.

Sprained ankle, mild. 4-6 weeks.

With that length of time it does not sound mild to me. Out over two months???

That's just what his mom told me. She lives around the corner from my aunt. I was confused also.

What sort of calendar system are you guys on? "4-6 weeks" is not "over two months"...

I never said "over two months", I just said I was confused, and hell, half the time I don't even know what I'm confused about. I just know he should be "out of service" for 4-6 weeks.

scarletngray said "Out over two months???" to which you replied "That's just what his mom told me"...you didn't correct him. Anyways, I don't think it's much to worry about...

Did anyone get to the spring preview today?

Yeah, I was there. It was a very good time. 1957 National Champs Team was honored...about 20 were there (including Jim Houston). Craig Krenzel and Archie were also special guests of honor (but didn't get time to be interviewed)

Coach Tress and the Asst. Coaches gave a run down of how the first 5 practices have gone and they're expectations of the season. Not a lot of any new info that we haven't already heard in this thread.

Anderson Russel spoke about the DBs...said Jenkins and Washington look really good. He isn't taking reps himself, but said he's progressing ahead of schedule and is doing individual drills, and will definitely be ready for Fall camp (he said he was involved in 6 a.m. workouts). Asked who really has stood out to him this Spring he replied "Todd Boeckman, he's made all the throws and completes most of them." The new coach talked about the Safeties (he still needed a little help with names :)), and actually what stuck out to me in his comments was that Jamario O'Neal still needs to work on learning the defense :(.

Coach Heacock and Vernon talked about the D Lineman and mentioned all of the 'usual suspects' as who we've expected to step into the open positions this year, but both mentioned Worthington as being especially dominant. I think it was Coach who said "We expect him to be a superstar."

Freeman and Little Animal were there. All LBs were talked about. Terry was said to be 'a little banged up now, but should be o.k.'. Larry Grant was mentioned as having a very good Spring.

Boeckman and Robo talked about offense with Coach 'Bolls'. Boone and Barton were said to be looking very good with Jimmy Cordle mentioned as doing well at Center.

Trapasso talked about Specials with Coach Fickle. said that the main contender for Long Snapper (Makridis I think) is hurt right now, but they also have a kid transfered in from OU working at the position and 2 or 3 others, so he expects no problems considering the talent and depth they have once the other kid gets healthy.

They also said that Pettrey and Pretorious maybe has missed one field goal between them that he can remember.

Everyone is excited...'ready to get their shot'. Coach Tress said the only thing he's alowed to say about any of the Prospective Student Athletes that aren't enrolled yet is "We are interested in 'so and so'". Specifically about Saine, "We are very interested in getting Brandon Saine in here."

OSU football: Defensive line will sport almost entirely new look

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

These days, Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Heacock feels less like a coach and more like a recess monitor.

He has been supervising a bunch of young kids on the defensive line during the first few days of spring practice. After practice Tuesday, he was sweating and hoarse from yelling.
"Enthusiasm, positive enthusiasm," he rasped by way of explanation, and indeed, he was smiling.
With the departure of three starters and a top reserve off the line ? end Jay Richardson and tackles David Patterson, Quinn Pitcock and Joel Penton ? practices have been spirited as the youngsters scramble to gain favor.
