The Buckeyes now lead the NCAA in total defense. Penn State is #2 and LSU #3.

Breakout: The adage that defense wins championships was lost in the preseason polls on the Big Ten. Despite its losses on defense, Michigan was ranked higher in the polls. But Ohio State, returning James Laurinaitis, Malcolm Jenkins and Vernon Gholston, maybe deserved a bump in the rankings. While the Buckeyes offense sputtered in the first half, the defense forced 14 Akron punts in a 20-2 win.

Is the Buckeye secondary defense a reason for this high ranking or is it because of the 2 opponents we have played against. To me its hard to
tell. Some of the Buckeye fans here in Florida have said that they think
the defensive backs are some of our strenghts. What do all of you have
on that matter.

The opponents. I still think our secondary is vunerable to the short, quick stuff and crossing patterns.
