talking with x-buckeye players ABOUT HOW BIG THAT WASHINGTON WIN WAS or a kid or someone that thinks he has a clue. I WOULD TAKE some OPINIONS by people that know about the game BEFORE, YOURS IN A SEC or KID. Can you understand that?

washington lost to ucla 31-10
ucla lost to utah badly
utah lost to unlv badly

all I said was washington sucks or at best a average team. When all the talk was HOW BIG OF A WIN THAT WAS FOR THE BUCKEYES WHEN IT REALLY WASN'T .

You're still not addressing what I said.

Listen, I'm not disagreeing with the fact that we haven't played any great offenses. What I'm so irritated about is the argument that a team isn't good because of some random chain of games. Call it a pet peeve.

thats cool and you have a great point with it being so early in the season but, the wins and losts of those other teams just got myself thinking about how balanced the NCAA football really is . Any team can show up on saturday with a chance to win . APP state against MICHIGAN then lost this last week to another D. 1 AA TEAM. Thats D. 1 AA 2 WINS OVER SCUM.

Last I checked the score between Washington and UCLA was 44-31. A FAR cry from what you put.

For Buckeyes, speed kills
By Jon Spencer
Telegraph-Forum staff

COLUMBUS -- You thought Ted Ginn Jr. was fast? Ten of Ohio State's last 12 scoring drives have taken less than two minutes. Six were under a minute. So, don't be surprised if coach Jim Tressel starts holding a stopwatch instead of a play chart.

Funny thing, though. When Northwestern wide receiver Eric Peterman praised the Buckeyes' speed Saturday, he wasn't talking about the offense. "They have a very fast de-fense," Peterman said after the Wildcats absorbed a 58-7 thrashing. "You can't simulate that speed on film or in practice, especially to play out on game day. They confused our offense and that speed really helped that."

Arguing that Washington isnt good because they lost to a team that lost to a team that lost to a team doesn't make any sense. Argue that Washington isnt good because they haven't beaten any strong opponents, or that their secondary is slow, or something like that. But there is no transitive property in football. If their was, I believe that UCF would be ranked number 19th, because they beat NC State, who beat Wofford, who beat Appalachian State, who beat Michigan, who beat Penn State, who is currently ranked 19th. Thus, UCF is better than Penn State, right?

Another thing to remeber is the game was at the RB. Washington put up 31 points against the UCLA starters on defense. They put up 7 against our starters. We obviously played them on the road versus UCLA being at home.

Pre-season the "experts" proclaimed UCLA as the second best, second most athletic defense, and they returned 10 starters on that side of the ball. Well our defense is a hell of alot better than their and its faster and more athletic.

I could give a shit who we have played. All we have heard since Tress has been here is how fast other teams are and how we don't measure up. GMAFB we showed the PAC-10 THAT WE ARE AS FAST IF NOT FASTER THAN ANYBODY IN THEIR CONFERENCE.

Freaking sweet! Its like playing one of those fighter video games where you have to beat the big boss at each level to win. Looks like that would be a very tough game to win.

The real season starts now.

none of the first 5 opponents have winning records (through 5 games)

All of remaining 7 opponents have winning records (through 5 games)
Youngstown State would have something to say about that. Their only loss is to the Bucks... they have more wins against I-AA competition that Appalachian State does.

Now if you would have said the first 4 I-A opponents have losing records then you would be correct.

First-string defense still hasn't surrendered a second-half TD this year...

Still hasn't. Also hasn't given up a TD in the first quarter all year, and has surrendered only two TDs all year (Washington's second TD was against mainly bench players).

Defensive points surrendered by quarter:

1st: 0 0 0 0 0 = 0
2nd: 3 0 7 0 7 = 17
3rd: 3 0 0 0 0 = 3
4th: 0 0 7 0 0 = 7

Here's a transcript of part of the conversation:

Comparing Ohio State and USC's team speed: They both move sideline-to-sideline really fast. They both close lanes, close holes really quickly. So, that was a huge adjustment for us. It's hard to run some stretch plays with teams like that because move to the ball so well. So, you know, that makes it difficult, but it also can work in your favor every once in awhile if you get a good cutback, or something. It was a speed that I think was pretty comparable between both those teams.

Tressel not ready to praise defense

As offensive-minded Purdue awaits, OSU coach says it's too early to know how good his team is.

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State's nationally televised game at Purdue on Saturday will be billed as a matchup between a dogged defense and a high-octane offense, but that's not the way Buckeye coach Jim Tressel is viewing it.
Fourth-ranked OSU leads the Big Ten in scoring defense (7.2 points per game), pass defense (142.6 yards) and total defense (197.6). Purdue is first in the league in scoring (45.4), passing (309.8) and total yardage (495.8).
