What your transitive analysis does not account for is the fact that every single one of these teams have southern speed and/or SEC speed!

We just can't compete. Even Lee Corso knows this. :(

I'd love for the team to put a shutout up against Minny this week.

The D deserves a clean sheet (no safety, no special teams scores) and I think this is a very good week to get that scoring average down.

It would be our second straight shutout of the goofers, too. With the possible exception of Kent State or Illinois, this is the team we have the best chance of keeping off the scoreboard.

Damn! I forgot about that! The South breeds a master race of humongous, well-endowed, fire-breathing ATHLETES who run 4.2's in snowshoes and bench press Chevy Suburbans as a light aerobic activity. Every other part of the country only produces slow, fat, short runts who don't belong on southern football fields and thus must play in the Big Ten, filled with pathetically small schools of little tradition and even less speed. Thanks for reminding me of this painfully obvious fact.

The factors I see working against the Bucks in this aspect are OSU offense: they'll be scoring at will on that putrid gopher "defense." The D might be on the field a lot. Granted I don't see Minny's offense taking advantage of this and so I think the D will get many, many, many 3 and outs.

offense scoring at will + many 3 and outs on defense= early blowout

the 2nd and 3rd stringers will get a lot of playing time, and not that they're not capable of handling Minny's offense, but it'll be tough to keep the intensity over the 60 minutes and they may let a late score in.

We are all dumber for having read that post.

Why? I mean AB is just being honest, we haven't played a ranked opponent yet. Washington has shown they are nothing special and it wasn't really a "tough" victory, Tressel handled it the way he always handles that QB who thinks about running, hit them like they are a linebacker a few times and make em think twice.

I don't think anyone is dumber for reading it, I think it's realistic. Be optimistic, don't be a homer.

It doesn't have a damn thing to do with Akron. It's his "since this team lost to this team, who lost to this team, who lost to this team" argument. If we go by that, a good 100 teams could've claimed they were better than Florida last year since they lost to Auburn, who lost to Arkansas, who lost to USC, who lost to Oregon St., who lost to Cal, who lost to Arizona, etc.

It's an awful argument.

EDIT- And hold up a minute. Where did he mention Akron? He was talking about Washington.

OSU notebook: Defense ranks 2nd nationally

NEAL C. LAURON | Dispatch
Linebacker James Laurinaitis, leveling Northwestern's C.J. Bacher, says Ohio State's highly ranked defense still has room to improve.

Ohio State might be No. 8 in the polls, but its defense ranks second nationally.
Four games into the season, the Buckeyes trail only second-ranked Louisiana State in total defense. LSU is giving up 161.5 yards per game; OSU is at 177.75. No other major college defense is under the 200 mark.
The Buckeyes defense should feel good about itself, All-America linebacker James Laurinaitis said, but only to a point.
"I think we've had a great start. I think we obviously need to improve on some things," the junior co-captain said. "Our special teams, we were good but we were not great (against Northwestern, giving up a second-half, opening kickoff return for a touchdown). We weren't perfect.

whats so absurb is that our killer defense showed a lot of mistakes against an average team but, dominance against weak teams. Can you understand that or do you need some tutoring:biggrin:

What's absurd is that you keep bringing up this point about the defense when that's not even what the kid is talking about.

He has made it plain that he is talking only about the use of the "victory-chain" line of reasoning. And you know what? He's 100% right. Thinking that we can draw conclusions about Washington at this early point in the season, especially using a victory-chain argument, is less than brilliant.

Did he state his case in terms that were perhaps too harsh. Yeah, he did. But he's what, 15 or 16 years old. What's your excuse?

Listen, I'm not disagreeing with the fact that we haven't played any great offenses. What I'm so irritated about is the argument that a team isn't good because of some random chain of games. Call it a pet peeve.

talking with x-buckeye players ABOUT HOW BIG THAT WASHINGTON WIN WAS or a kid or someone that thinks he has a clue. I WOULD TAKE some OPINIONS by people that know about the game BEFORE, YOURS IN A SEC or KID. Can you understand that?

washington lost to ucla 31-10
ucla lost to utah badly
utah lost to unlv badly

all I said was washington sucks or at best a average team. When all the talk was HOW BIG OF A WIN THAT WAS FOR THE BUCKEYES WHEN IT REALLY WASN'T .
