Wow ...thats bold considering they still play Cal, Oregon and ASU on the road plus Ucla...I predict the sun will come out today at some point...I predict JT will wear a vest on gameday too:biggrin:

Damn it!!!

I forgot that I was wearing my Captain Obvious t-shirt underneath my jacket today. I must make sure to look more often before posting.

College Football: Idiot pollsters on the loose

Posted by [email protected] October 08, 2007 14:31PM

I'm so angry with the polls this week, as an AP voter, I felt it necessary to offer an extended rant. In a year of upsets, the way so many voters are hanging on to program reputations completely disgraces what the coaches and players are doing.
I've listed four polls in the four breakdowns: the coaches and Harris polls, which are part of the BCS equation, and the AP poll and Masters Coaches poll, a collection of 16 former coaches including John Cooper, that aren't part of the BCS.
In these four cases, I compared two teams in the same conference, one with a lesser reputation that has been underrated by the polls, and one with a strong reputation that has been overrated by the polls.
Polls should be based on performance, not opinion. It's not whether a pollster thinks Team A might beat Team B on a neutral field. It's about what has happened on the field this year. It's not a prediction, a way to look smarter later if a team you ranked too high finishes strong. It is who is playing well and winning RIGHT NOW.

Amen to that.

foxsports.com projects LSU vs OSU in title game.

Had you said that a month ago, star, or anyone else for that matter, you mighta been tarred and feathered, labeled as an idiot Buckeye homer. Not just on foxsports.com, but universal. I knew a lot of fellow Buckeye fans in my zip code that promised me we were back to the earth this year. I tried to keep my mouth shut and listen to them, but I'm also a homer. I realize we're only halfway done, but I also picked 13-0 in the poll of what our record would be this season. Each week gets us one step closer, and if we keep improving like we have, well then....I should stop now. :)

Watch it now. You've come dangerously close to mentioning a title run. Per impromptu rules of BP that would require a thread hijack of thousands of LOLcat pics. Just look at what happened to OH HSKR FAN.

:io:

Never leave a Buckeye hanging.

I also voted 13-0 in the poll. I knew the defense would be stellar and that alone would be enough. Now that the offense is coming around things are getting exciting. I would like to see our QB go through his progressions more effectively and not stare down receivers, but if I see it I know the coaches do to so I am not too concerned. We have a long way to go and the Big Ten is full of surprises this year so I am not making those reservations just yet.

Do they come out with BCS Standings after the Bowl Games are over? If not, it'll be something like 100 weeks in a row that Ohio State is #1 in the BCS Standings. Maybe this post should be in the "regular season winning streaks", or something.

They do not update them after the bowls.

The chirping about BCS Standings / SEC (too hard) the rest too soft based on the likely #1 ranking for Ohio State has begun.

Dan Wetzel - Yahoo - Anarchy Reigns

But while the BCS shares many similarities with the cockroach, it can be killed. A nuclear winter would do it and after Kentucky beat Louisiana State in triple overtime and Oregon State stunned Cal, well, let's just say the missiles are in the air.
Boston College vs. South Florida in the BCS title game, anyone? How about either of them against an Ohio State team with exactly zero quality wins?
Think that might do it?
There isn't frost on the pumpkin yet and the college football season is a befuddled mess that won't get any clearer when the first BCS standings get released on Sunday (4 p.m. ET).
Ohio State (7-0) might wind up No. 1, but the Buckeyes have beaten exactly no good teams. And due to their cupcake non-conference slate and the horrific state of the Big Ten, they won't have to beat anyone really good to waltz into the BCS title game with an unblemished record.
