2007 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Now think about this; With our new QB it would not surprise me to see Beanie get 1,800 yards this year.

Beanie has to stay healthy to get that kind of yardage. That's an iffy proposition right now. :(

And Slaton has to stay injury free also!

Arkansas will be a major disappointment this year.
Defense and running game carried them last year and the defense is riddled with injuries and won't be healthy all year.
McFadden will still be a stud. I think his only problem is that he is not the only back on the team. Felix Jones is a great running back as well and will see his fair share of carries. But then again Darren will line up under center and as a receiver.

Of course health is always an issue, the good news is that this kid has the build of a brahma. He will have another year of strentgh and training so I don't foresee anything like MC syndrome. as long as the legs last is as long as he will last IMO

Heisman hopefuls: USC's Booty, Beanie Wells bookend early list of players to watch

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

This is the way a Heisman Trophy race should begin, with a starting gate full of contenders just waiting for the bell. Last year, there were three strong preseason favorites in Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith, Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn and Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson. After Peterson was injured, the other two were chased by a field of wannabes. In the end, Smith ran away with it, well ahead of the runner-up, Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, and Quinn.

It's too early for me, but we'll keep up with the national writers' tracking.

1. Brian Brohm
2. Colt Brennan
3. Pat White
4. Darren McFadden

Brohm vs. Brennan
Two QBs top list after smoking vastly inferior teams

Before you get all e-mail-crazy and write in asking what I was smoking when I left off the starting running back from your beloved State U., let's explain the list that follows. Below is how I would fill out my Heisman ballot if the ballot was due today. Thank heavens it's not, because with only one game in the books, that would be an exercise in stupidity.

Scripps-Howard Poll is out:

LINK

? Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden has grabbed the early lead in the first Scripps Howard Heisman Trophy poll of the season.
McFadden, who finished second to Ohio State's Troy Smith in Heisman voting last year, bulled his way for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Arkansas' 41-38 last-seconds loss at Alabama Saturday night.
For the season, McFadden, who received six of first-place votes, is second in the nation with 346 yards rushing with three touchdowns while also throwing a TD pass in only two games.
A trio of quarterbacks is chasing McFadden. Louisville's Brian Brohm is second narrowly ahead of Hawaii's QB Colt Brennan, who got one first-place vote, and Florida's Tim Tebow, who got two first-place nods after leading the Gators to a 59-20 rout of Tennessee Saturday.
