2007 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Chad Henne even being in the same sentence as the phrase "Heisman candidates" is a total joke.

Considering the source (Fiutak), I'm not as surprised that he included Henne as I am that he did not also include Hart. Because we're breaking in a new QB this fall and Wells had over 500 yards rushing as a true freshman in splitting time with Pittman, I am really surprised that Wells is not listed as one of the top 20 candidates.

A top-20 from Richard Cirminiello, without Chris Wells.

cfn

RBs on the list:

McFadden, Arkansas
Slaton, WVU
Hart, scUM
Rice, Rutgers
Johnson, Boise St.
Hill, Wisconsin
Davis, Clemson
Choice, Ga Tech
Stewart, Oregon
Ore, Va Tech

Is this guy serious that he thinks all these RBs have a better shot at winning the Heisman than does Beanie? Please.

I'd put everybody on that list ahead of beanie except Choice and Ore

I'm not sure why that is so hard to believe. All these guys are pretty good and they still don't give Heismans to sophomores...If I were making a Heisman list before the year even started, I wouldn't include a single sophomore on the list...

IIRC all those guys are upperclassmen. In terms of winning the heisman, I see where he's coming from leaving a Sophomore out -- but for a top-20 list, it could just be bias.

I could be wrong, but I think P.J. Hill (who's on the list) is a sophomore. And I know that McCoy of UT and Tebow of UF are.

Hill is/will be a Jr.
Shoots the no-underclassmen thing out w/McCoy and Tebow though. Especially considering that Tebow hasn't actually done a damn thing yet.
I'd like to point out that a top-20 list for Heisman w/o underclassmen is pretty ridiculous anyway. Yes, they'll never win it, but are you going to cut out other guys making the trip to NY just because they probably won't win based on class alone?

I agree that it SHOULD be a joke. However, he's going to bomb the ball deep many, many times. And Manningham will catch many of them for touchdowns. And, since it's Michigan, he will get recognition. I haven't seen anything in his three years that would suggest to me that he deserves Heisman hype, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear his name quite a bit next year. I think he'll have to step up and become a much more complete quarterback before he deserves a chance to go to the ceremony, but there'll always be crazy-insane people who want to put him on their lists.
