Colt Brennan has been invited as a finalist...

Apparently there is a way to top a perfect season.

Quarterback Colt Brennan, who led the University of Hawai'i football team to a 12-0 regular season and a Sugar Bowl berth, has been invited to New York as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, head coach June Jones confirmed last night.

"This is great for the state and the school," Jones said. "When has that ever happened for our school? Never. It'll probably never happen again."

The finalists will be announced today.

Finalists are invited to attend the announcement of college football's most prestigious award at a show televised live from the Nokia Theatre in Times Square.

Brennan declined to comment, saying, "I haven't received an official invitation. It might come (today), but I don't want to say anything now to make the Heisman committee mad."

But the Downtown Athletic Club of New York has booked a round-trip ticket for Brennan, who will depart tomorrow night.

A comparative review of Tebow and Brennan, by a guy who knows 'em both.

From the Honolulu Advertiser, comes some thoughts from a guy who knows both Tim Tebow and Colt Brennan:

Ken Taylor knows Brennan and Tebow personally. Taylor's son, Rick, is a UH slotback. Taylor was an assistant coach when Tebow was a senior at Nease High in Florida.

"I love Timmy to death, and I've known him since he was 6 years old," Taylor said. "When it comes to pure passing, it's Colt hands down."

Taylor said without Tebow, Florida would not have a winning record. But Taylor said that if Brennan played in Florida's spread-option offense, "he's the Heisman Trophy winner hands down."

Taylor said Brennan's "accuracy is amazing. I've never seen a quarterback more accurate than Colt Brennan."

Rick Taylor has caught passes from Tebow and Brennan. He said Brennan's passes "are not too hard, not too soft. They're right there."

He said Tebow has more arm strength.

But pressed to decide between the two, Rick Taylor said: "I'm going to have to go with Colt. That's my guy right now. They're both great quarterbacks, but Colt's my guy right now."

Pinkel has also stated that Chase Daniel has been invited to NY. Obviously Tebow and McFadden are going, the question is will there be a fifth?

Kevin Smith deserves a trip, but I don't think he'll get one. Will they invite Dennis Dixon, who was the leading candidate when he got injured?

Hell - he has a kid on the Hawaii team, what's he gonna say?

"Yeah - My son's coach June Jones is full of shit, and you should give it to Tebow instead of the burglar/pervert we have at QB."

Just to preface this post, I believe Tebow deserves the Heisman and has played as well as anyone in the country.

The one point I'd like to make after watching that video:

17 of the 22 rushing td's were planned runs from inside the 5 yard line. Obviosuly this is a strength of Tebow so they utilize it, but you have to believe his numbers are inflated because
  • Urban wants a Heisman winner
  • There isn't a great option at RB down on the goal-line
It will be interesting to see how many TD's Tebow puts up next year with a legit threat at RB in Emmanuel Moody (former USC RB)

Aw c'mon. You think Troy has any love for anything remotely Gator???

True, he may think it should not go to sophomores. He may think Tim is just not that good. He may think that he is a "system quarterback".

But I have to think that if he had a choice any Gator is not his choice for Heisman. I mean, winning the Heisman is impressive as hell, so really - would you blame him if he was reticent to have his incredible achievement now going Gator within ten months of the game in the desert?
