2007 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Aw c'mon. You think Troy has any love for anything remotely Gator???

True, he may think it should not go to sophomores. He may think Tim is just not that good. He may think that he is a "system quarterback".

But I have to think that if he had a choice any Gator is not his choice for Heisman. I mean, winning the Heisman is impressive as hell, so really - would you blame him if he was reticent to have his incredible achievement now going Gator within ten months of the game in the desert?

Uh, he's close friends with Chris Leak and I have never seen him show any sign resentment towards UF. I think it's more than a little unfair to assume Troy is just holding a grudge against Tebow and Florida.

Uh, maybe he'll speak his actual opinion? You think he fears repercussion from Jones if he says Tebow is better than Brennan?

I think you back a teammate, and say that HE deserves the trophy, not a non-teammate....or in this case, his son's teammate. And I have to question that fact that he is comparing Tebow to Colt based upon his seeing Tim in high school. Who fucking cares? Colt is a senior, and Tim is at the end of his second year of college. High school Timmy ain't in the mix. He has a right to an opinion, but the suggestion that he has more "insight" because of seeing him at Nease is bullshit.

Might be unfair. As unfair an opinion as leaving Tim off the top three picks. I mean, it's his perfect right and all, but to ignore Tim totally on the vote is so - well - weird - that my natural take would be to look for reasons to explain it, and that is all I can come up with.

As to him being buds with Chirs...link? I mean, not doubting you, but I've never seen that. And as you may have gathered, I've got on my Orange and Blue shades on this one. I admit it.

Just in case you want to vent, Ivan Maisel has Tebow 4th.

No, when asked a question, you give your honest answer. There's no "backing" of your son's teammate. Hell, you could argue that he should "back" his former player he coached. Sorry that not everyone in the known universe is unanimously backing Tim "Superman" Tebow...

Alex Smith had similar numbers to Tim Tebow in his second year under Urban Meyer, and despite his team having a better year, and being ranked higher in every poll, Alex Smith did not finish in the top 5 vote getters for the Heisman Trophy. So it would be at least as fair not to have Tebow in the top 3 if an Alex Smith didn't finish in the top 5.

And now that Alex Smith is already in the past, one can make a plausible argument that Tebow is a similarly good fit in a great Urban Meyer offensive machine, only with lesser running backs. Some of the stats are hauntingly similar through 12 games played (same exact amount of pass attempts, both 2nd nationally in QB efficiency rating, w/in 4 total completions of each other, Smith 4 INTs/ Tebow 6 INTs, Smith 32 passing TDs/ Tebow 29 passing TDs, etc.).
