2005-2006 Latest Men's Basketball Rankings (Currently #6)

Week 17RANKTEAMREC.COMMENT
5Gonzaga 25-3 Some people see closer-than-expected wins in the WCC and smell weakness. I don't think the Zags are great, but they take foes' best shots every night out in conference play. Going unbeaten in any league is very hard. Ask Duke.
6Ohio State 22-4 Escaped at Northwestern to move one win away from a solo Big Ten title. This season's a great reward for the players who were shafted out of a postseason berth last season by the university's (premature) self-imposed ban.

This ESPN yayhoo is comparing the WCC with the ACC? :roll1:

And how can ESPN prove that our self-imposed ban was "premature? There's no way anyone could tell how the investigation would (actually, it's still "will") turn out. We did the smart thing to minimize NCAA-imposed damage...

They say banning the team was the wrong move, yet i'm sure if we didn't ban the team THAT would have been the wrong move. Whatever we did, i'm sure ESPN would say, "bad move Ohio State. What were you thinking?"

Bracketology is out for yesterday. It should be updated again some time today, but for now....

OSU still a 2 seed. Much better bracket this time, as they are in with Memphis as the #1. Elite 8 path: Northern Arizona, Oklahoma/Creighton, NC State/Bucknell/Pitt/Manhattan. This is the Oakland bracket.

Surprisingly they bumped Pitt from Dayton in favor of Illinois. Illinois must be blowing Lunardi, because they get a lot of love for struggling as of late. This might change dramatically with today's update. As for now, I would say OSU is the first #2 seed ahead of Gonzaga. They have Illinois and LSU as the other 2 seeds interestingly enough. (I wonder if their messageboards are pondering a 1 seed :p)

I'm now a believer in the possibility of OSU getting a 1 seed. Way to choke Callipari.

Now that Memphis lost, if OSU wins out they should be worthy of a #1 seed. But OSU still has to prove they are more worthy then Gonzaga and Pitt, which are still ahead of us in the polls. GW is also ahead of us, but we obviously are better and would get the #1 seed before them. I think the final #1 seed will be between OSU and Gonzaga. Either way, those 2 teams will be in the same bracket, one as the #1(lowest) and the other as the #2(highest).

Pitt lost to WVU after those polls came out, we will jump them.

I don't agree. Memphis' loss probably just caused them to be on the border of 1/2, not drop that far down. Their RPI is still 5th. I think Memphis has a better resume than Gonzaga. I think it looks likely that Memphis and Ohio State will be in the same bracket, with one as the lowest 1 seed and the other as the highest 2 seed.

All these teams in front of us losing makes me wonder. I dont think gonzaga and memphis are in need of a number one seed. This considering there smaller and less powerful conferences. This leaves duke, conn, villinova and ?. The buckeye in me would love to see that number one seed go to us but, since the buckeyes havent been this good in basketball since maybe 90-91 do you think they will be able to get the number one seed.
