This is slightly off topic, but this thread got me thinking about the last time a school had a top 5 team in football and basketball in the same year (school year, not calendar year).

I don't know if this logic holds true, but I think the last time was in 1998-99, and the team was OSU! The football team ended up #2 (I think), and the basketball team made it to the Final Four. Assuming this gives them at least a #4 ranking, I'd say that was a fairly solid year for Buckeyes. Granted, all of this is from memory...

By the way, Texas has an interesting shot this year at two national championships. I really doubt it will happen because the Big 12 is weak as hell, but still worth noting.

In my estimation we should be at least 6th. I think memphis, GW, Gonzaga, and texas are overrated. We have the 5th highest rpi and ar 21-4 something is wrong with this eighth place ranking.

Maybe correct, but the great thing about college BB is that, really, it doesn't matter. If we get a 2 seed (i.e. ranked between 5-8 in the eyes of the selection committee), none of that really matters, and it is settled on the court. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have been talking about who the football Buckeyes would have drawn in the first round of the tourny this year as a 1-2 seed. Both of our teams seem to peak at the season's end - great for basketball, and good (but not necessarily great - see Texas) for football.

The highest the Bucks will end up would be 5 if we win out and go deep into the Big-10 CC. They will not slide ahead of Duke, Uconn, Memphis, or Zaga. Zaga's season is over and they only have the WCC CC left and they will roll through that. In Zaga's credit, they did play some tough teams in their Non-Conference schedule but did lose to all of them except for Michigan State. They did play Uconn, Memphis, and Washington close so you never know what they are capable in the big dance and you can't help but root for a small school with a guy like Morrison. I say Texas very well will lose another. They have been playing inconsistent lately. GW may lose a game in the A10 championship and that may be enough to slide ahead of them due to a weak schedule. Pitt already dropped one this week and will drop another before the seasons over. Nova could drop 2 more games as well and that could slide us up. At any rate, I am excited about the top 10 ranking and if we win out the regular season, we are the #1 seed in the Big Ten Toureny and we should make it to the finals. I say the worse NCAA tourny ranking would be a 2 seed. What a season!
