2002 NC Team vs. 2014 NC Team

Talent wise, I'd take the 95 or 96 Bucks - Coop just couldn't get by the two Michigans.

When were there two Michigans? One is bad enough.

Just enjoy them both. There's no need for comparison or favoritism.

Bah. Bor-ring!

Are we putting them against each other? That's the way I understand it.
I'm putting all my Monopoly money in on 2014. My heart is with the 2002 team. But I don't see that 2002 defense, as awesome as it was, stopping the 2014 offense much. Also, sorry, JT - you'll probably always be my favorite coach, but I think Meyer out-coaches Tressel on the field. About the only saving grace for 2002 is special teams.

2014 Offense vs. 2002 Defense - 2014
2014 Defense vs. 2002 Offense - 2014
2014 Special Teams vs. 2002 Special Teams - 2002
2014 Coaches vs. 2002 Coaches - 2014
Extra bump for just never losing - 2002

3-2 in favor of 2014.

This topic just made me want to imagine these two teams playing together. I present to you a team that would force every opponent to forfeit:

QB: Cardale Jones
RB: Ezekiel Elliott
FB: Maurice Clarett
TE: Ben Hartsock
WR: Michael Jenkins
WR: Evan Spencer
WR: Devin Smith

2014's entire offensive line

LE: Will Smith
DT: Michael Bennett
DT: Kenny Peterson
RE: Joey Bosa
LB: Cie Grant
LB: Matt Wilhelm
LB: Darron Lee
CB: Chris Gamble
CB: Doran Grant
S: Tyvis Powell
S: Mike Doss

Ret: Chris Gamble
K: Mike Nugent
P: Cameron Johnston

Head Coach: Can't choose. Refuse to.
OC: Tom Herman
DC: Mike Dantonio

Heuerman & Vannett both > Hartsock

Cie Grant and Darron Lee play the same position. I'd take Lee. At SAM I'd take Robert Reynolds ahead of Joshua Perry.

All due respect to Tyvis Powell, he doesn't belong on this all-star team. If you are willing to consider the two safety spots interchangeable (which I do these days), the following guys should all be ahead of Powell besides Doss: Will Allen, Donnie Nickey, Vonn Bell.

Head coach is easy: Urban Meyer.

I'd rather have Mark Dantonio than his cousin, the plumber from Zanesville, Mike Dantonio, but that's me.

This guy is not a good defensive coordinator.

Because of the CFB rules today, I go with 2014 OSU...Defense was still allowed to be played at an intense level 12 years ago. A lot harder to do what the 02 D did.

And also now with the hurry up offense and dual threat QB, who knows if the 02 D could have handled it, wasn't as wide spread back then as it is now

Obviously both teams were very special. But for me it is '02...first national title I watched us win and beating Thug U as huge underdogs in that fashion was incredible. Then the close games throughout the season leading to an undefeated record. And I just felt closer to the team but a lot of that can be attributed to being at almost every game I think. Having said that, I echo the "RIP Tressel-ball" sentiment...this team was much more fun to watch for me over the course of the season.

I think the big edge that this 2014 team has is that nobody else can say shit. I don't even have to tell people to fuck off about some pass interference/holding call. Everyone knows the Buckeyes thoroughly kicked ass this year. Undisputed Champs. Can't be argued.

2 tremendous teams that will go down in Buckeye history. This topic is like a double edged sword, as to say one, would mean that you think the other is somewhat inferior. I had a convo with a Buckeye fan in his 60s and he told me as much as he loved watching the 2002 team, the 2014 team made a statement. He said the 2002 team was a period, and 2014 was an exclamation point. And After thinking about it, it was a good point, though Tress won it all, and his brand of football won a lot of games, it never stood out to the rest of America that OSU was on too, though we all know we were, or at least very close. Urban has come in, and made a proclamation to the CFB world that OSU is on top, with a huge statement in the Suger Bowl and NC. There was no holding back, sitting on a lead, or letting special teams take over, Urban keeps his foot on the other teams neck, especially in big games. As much as I loved and admired Tressel, his brand of ball gave me many heartaches, and allowed some teams back in to games we should've had. I don't believe Urban allows that, or our teams to get complacent, and the 2015 year will be a testament to that.
