2002 NC Team vs. 2014 NC Team

This topic just made me want to imagine these two teams playing together. I present to you a team that would force every opponent to forfeit:

QB: Cardale Jones
RB: Ezekiel Elliott
FB: Maurice Clarett
TE: Ben Hartsock
WR: Michael Jenkins
WR: Evan Spencer
WR: Devin Smith

2014's entire offensive line

LE: Will Smith
DT: Michael Bennett
DT: Kenny Peterson
RE: Joey Bosa
LB: Cie Grant
LB: Matt Wilhelm
LB: Darron Lee
CB: Chris Gamble
CB: Doran Grant
S: Tyvis Powell
S: Mike Doss

Ret: Chris Gamble
K: Mike Nugent
P: Cameron Johnston

Head Coach: Can't choose. Refuse to.
OC: Tom Herman
DC: Mike Dantonio

Y u no Andy Groom?!

'02 did it when the margin of error for getting to the championship was much smaller, so I think you have to give them the nod. Not to take anything away from the run that we had in the last three games... that was unprecedented, but 14 was having just a very good season by OSU standards and then got really hot at the perfect time.

So GF#1 was always hot, GF#1A was okay but then lost some weight over the summer and is now smoking.

Obviously both teams were very special. But for me it is '02...first national title I watched us win and beating Thug U as huge underdogs in that fashion was incredible. Then the close games throughout the season leading to an undefeated record. And I just felt closer to the team but a lot of that can be attributed to being at almost every game I think. Having said that, I echo the "RIP Tressel-ball" sentiment...this team was much more fun to watch for me over the course of the season.

Just sayin': The first National Title Game that I watched was 1968 (i.e. 1969 Rose Bowl which was a #1 vs #2 matchup). If it is....

1968 NC Team vs. 2002 NC Team vs. 2014 NC Team

the winner is.....

The 1968 Ohio State Buckeyes may have been the best team in the history of college football.

I liked the 2002 team better - no losses, so many exciting wins, such an unexpected ride to the title.

But the 2014 team is better (at least it peaked at a higher level late in the season).

Plus Tressel vs. Meyer - we saw how that battle worked out in 2006.
Yeah... Pretty much this.

I will say...

Not to contradict anyone else, but let's never underrate the '02 defense... Those guys were operating with a very limited safety net. Keep in mind the emergency converted cornerback two way guy played 9 seasons in the nfl and had 27 career picks.

Both had a lot of reasons it was unlikely... Shit. Its never likely. The mike doss presser to come back that I was reminded of when cardale had his hard that moment where he wanted to come back to win the nc. Don't tell me you didn't look at him funny when he said it.

Anyway.. Love them both to death. Not sure what was more improbable... The whole '02 season or the 3 just brilliant wins to close 14.

I choose both?
