2002 NC Team vs. 2014 NC Team

Only time will tell... but the '02 team utterly destroyed Miami's program... if the '14 does that to Oregon I might swing my vote.

In the end, this is basically where I fall.

Cryami may never recover from the beating they took in 2002. While it sucks for oregon that they lost another title game, they weren't a dynasty before, they certainly weren't unstoppable or on a 30+ game winning streak, and they weren't the undisputed champions coming into the game.

Talent wise, I'd take the 95 or 96 Bucks - Coop just couldn't get by the two Michigans.

It's criminal the amount of talent he had from about 93-98 but couldn't finish - not even in conference. If it wasn't scUM it was Sparty. Damn that whole state.

The Tressel years softened me on him, though. I don't hate him anymore ... he was an amazing recruiter, he did put Ohio State back into the national spotlight even if he failed to finish, and as somebody else noted - the cupboard was very well stocked when he handed the reigns over.
And all that talent that played in the NFL and gave such titles as "WR U", "CB U", etc. certainly helped Tressel recruit.

Just look at Michigan over the past eight years.

When John Cooper is the worst coach you've had in 65 years ...

Loved both teams and love watching Buckeye football. I hope to watch many more years of it. To that end, that '02 team took at least five years off my life watching it play. Therefore, the nod goes to '14.

In all seriousness, the '14 team was a lot of fun to watch. I think from a viewers perspective, it's clearly with the '14 team. There were just so many weapons and the way Urb & Co. used them to attack was a blast to watch.

As far a heart goes, it's gotta be a draw. Neither team every quit on themselves.

Personalities on the team? '14 hands down.

Mangold and Doss are two of my favs ever. Doss in particular. Who the fuck eats taco salad with Tostitoes on a weekly basis for a year as a reminder of his goals?

But this team had some fantastic personalities. EzE, Powell, CJ, JTB, Bennett, Bosa, Lee... It just goes on and on.

Off the field shit, clearly we have to get through to next fall to determine, but my early money is on the '14 team keeping it's nose a lot cleaner than the '02 team. I think that this comes down to leadership from the players and the coaches. '02 still had some elements from the Coop years that I think lent itself to some of the issues we saw... Yes, I'm clearly aware that the biggest issue was a JT recruit, but I also don't think that JT was as firm with the players as this current staff... So, I'm going to give the nod to '14.

Head to head? I think that if games are won in the trenches, it's probably got to go to '02. Grown ass men on both sides of the ball for both teams for sure, but I think that '02 has the edge. Combine that was MoC, and '02 wins a close one.

I compare these two titles to my kids. I like my 11 year old daughter the best right now because she wipes her own ass. Sometimes my 4 year old is my favorite when the 2 year old is throwing a tantrum and the 11 year old is giving me attitude.

What I'm trying to say is, I like 2002 or 2014 better depending on which day of the week it is.
