'14 TX C Myles Turner (Texas Verbal)

Handicapping the race for Myles Turner
August, 14, 2013
By Jeff Goodman | ESPN.com

8. Ohio State: The Buckeyes certainly have a major need for a talented big man, but no one involved with the recruitment seems to feel Thad Matta has much of a shot at reeling in Turner to Columbus. Matta has a track record of landing heralded big men (Greg Oden, Jared Sullinger, B.J. Mullens, Kosta Koufos), but those were all Midwest guys who decided to stay close to home.

I love Jahlil Okafor as a player, but Myles is the big man I personally would most love to see in an Ohio State uniform out of this recruiting class. Pair him with KBD, Tate, Russell, and Bell, along with what is already on the roster and ... wow.

His game reminds me a little of Anthony Davis, with a more refined offensive repertoire but not as good ball-handling skills (although to be fair to Myles, the highlights don't really allude to whether he can or cannot handle the ball well for a big man). He's definitely a game-changer on both sides of the ball.

Turner could be a difference-maker for OSU in terms of having a team capable of winning the NC in 2015. Hopefully he sees it the same way.

I just hate seeing Kansas as the favorite for Turner and Alexander both. Like they need two top-5 big men in the same recruiting class, after getting the #1 C prospect in 2013 and a 4* transfer who will be eligible their frosh season.

i see a lot of (the high school) kevin garnett in myles turner. same height. same build. same mobility, though i give a slight edge for teenage athleticism to garnett. both are comfortable with the outside jumper. garnett didn't have a wealth of post moves in high school; neither does turner.

Not sure how tapped into things Jeff Goodman is, or a "studio reporter", as guys like Brian Snow, Evan Daniels and Zach Fleer are actually at these events and talking to prospects... and they certainly don't see OSU as team #8.
Goodman is pretty sharp and does a good job of staying connected. If he sees the Buckeyes as this far down the list, I'm a lot less optimistic.

According to a report by Reggie Rankin, Myles has scheduled an official visit to OSU on October 19th. That is the date of the Iowa football game. It will be interesting to see if OSU gets another big to commit before then.

I guess I do not understand would not you like Turner in this class or is it just that you would prefer someone else?
