Another ‘big’ weekend
Ohio State appears to be down to its last chance at landing an elite big man in the 2014 recruiting class.
Myles Turner, a 6-foot-10 center from Euless, Texas, and the No.2-ranked prospect nationally at his position in the 247 composite rating of major media recruiting services, is making an official visit to campus this weekend.
Also on campus for an official visit is 6-9 forward-center Payton Dastrup of Mesa, Ariz. But while he is a high-school senior, Dastrup has said he does not plan to enter college until 2016, after serving a two-year Mormon mission.
Turner is the third such prospect to visit in the past month. Seven-foot Elbert Robinson of Garland, Texas, and 6-9 Goodluck Okonoboh of Boston visited three weeks ago, when Ohio State last had a home football game. Okonoboh is ranked fourth and Robinson fifth in the 247 ranking. They have since made commitments to other schools, Okonoboh to UNLV and Robinson to LSU.
This is the first visit for Turner, who has said he will not sign with a school until the spring. He also plans to visit Texas and Kansas and, possibly, Duke, Kentucky and Oklahoma State.

Myles Turner Enjoys Ohio State; Louisville Is Out
October 21st, 2013
Myles Turner took his first official visit to Ohio State this past weekend and it went well.
“Myles told me it went really well,” David Turner, Myles’ father, told SNY.tv. “His mom and Myles went. He enjoyed it. Ohio State showed him a great time.”
David said head coach Thad Matta talked to the 6-foot-11 Trinity (TX) Euless big man about how he would be used.
“Coach does have specific ideas about how they would use him and he explained that to Myles in pretty good detail,” David said. “He wasn’t going to just stick Myles in the post and leave him there.”
Turner is now listing Ohio State, Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, Texas and Oklahoma State, with Louisville no longer recruiting him.

WASHINGTON — The national basketball recruiting spotlight is squarely set on 6-foot-11, 225-pound Myles Turner. The senior from Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, is ranked as the nation's second-best prospect. He is the only one of the top 10 who is still unsigned.Turner had only gotten regional interest until having some breakthrough performances in some of this summer's elite camps. Those included the Amare Stoudemire Big Man Skills Academy, the NBA Top 100, the LeBron James Camp and the USA Development Camp.
"I really made a name for myself, because nobody really knew about me," said Turner, the cover boy of the Washington Tournament of Champions program. "I was doing well against some top-level competition."
Not that Turner came out of nowhere.
A post-season injury after his sophomore year stalled his coming-out party.
"I broke my ankle right after the season," Turner said. "I went up to block a shot, and when I came down, I tweaked it. But a kid fell on it, pushed it back inside, and it just snapped."
Okie State does have a 4* 6'9" C already committed to them for this recruiting class, but that's not going to scare Myles off. Even with Cliff committed to them, with Kansas underperforming like they are this year, Myles has to be licking his chops to play at a blue-blood like Kansas, which wouldn't be too terribly far from home.
As for OSU's chances, with Amir playing like he is and with Myles likely looking at being a 1-and-done player, I could see Myles looking at a better situation than the one at Ohio State where he would be the only go-to player in the post. With that said, I could see Myles being a 50/50 timeshare with Amir and be the go-to player in year 2, if he were to return. I'd absolutely LOVE to see him play alongside fellow Texan Mickey Mitchell if he were to come back.
Matta's history with premier C recruits and our new facilities have got to be big positives for Ohio State, but I see him committing to Kansas during the spring period. I certainly hope I'm wrong, because I think Myles would do amazing things here. Whether or not we get Myles, Ohio State will have a great situation to promote to a C for the 2015 class, especially with being able to play alongside blue chip PFs Mickey & Keita.
