'14 JUCO OT Chad Mavety (FSU Verbal)

It will come down to osu and Alabama. With Alabama being so loaded at ol , and osu loosing 4 starters and 1 or 2 backups to graduation? I think it is favoring Osu. Why can some schools recruit jucos and others don't ?

Your logic may be true if we were talking about another team. But this is alabama we're talking about. And if they want a kid they'll find room. By your logic, last year they shouldve gotten 1, maybe 2RBs, because they had a RB for their future who will probably start for the next 2yrs, and 2 RBs will still have 2+ yrs of eligibility each left (if i remember correctly). Alabama signed 4 RBs all rated very high and could be in the 2 deep at most colleges in the nation! Alvin kamara and altee tenpenny alone could start for a number of teams in the big 10, big 12, and pac 12. I'd never sleep on alabama just because they have perceived depth at a position. Theyre always looking to upgrade. Reuben foster was signed last year, as well as few other high end ILBs and yet still raekwon mcmillan has them in his top 3

Yea your right . Somehow Alabama finds a way for top competition to come in yearly and stack talent 4 or 5 deep without the incoming guys worrying about competition ahead of them. -sigh- I think they cheat but that is another story for another day.

Rutgers recruiting: Chad Mavety no longer considering the Scarlet Knights

The Scarlet Knight's recruitment of Nassau Community College (Garden City, N.Y.) offensive tackle Chad Mavety has come to an end. The 6-6, 325-pounder reached out to the Rutgers staff last week, advising them that although he appreciated their interest, he no longer desired to be recruited by the Scarlet Knights. Florida State, Ohio State and Alabama now appear the front-runners in Mavety's recruitment.

"I told coach Wrobo (Damian Wroblewski) I'm not interested anymore," Mavety told NJ.com. "It was last week, I'm pretty sure."

Mavety, a Sparta, N.J. native, took an unofficial visit to Rutgers two months ago and – seemingly – left campus impressed. But according to Mavety, things have changed. He expressed his reasoning for discontinuing the recruiting process with his home-state school.

"I felt like they didn't need me compared to (Ala)Bama, Florida State and Ohio State, who make it a priority to show me in some way every day that I'm an important piece," he said.

The Scarlet Knights are high Mavety but were in the process of figuring out a way to get him admitted into the school, a source says. Mavety is aware of the fact that the admission requirements at certain schools are more lenient than others. But at the end of the day, says he has to do what he has to do.

"Makes sense, and I respect that," said Mavety, ranked the No. 2 junior college offensive tackle in the country. "But I've gotta do what's best for me."

Mavety has set up additional visits – to the campuses of the three schools he is considering most – for further assessment.

"I'm going back to Florida State November 2nd for their Miami (Fla.) game, and that's unofficial," he said. "Then I go to Ohio State November 22nd through the 24th for my official. And then I'm heading to Alabama for an official and then two more schools will get one. I'm just having a hard time deciding."

I wonder if Alabama landing Cameron Robinson will work with osu landing Mavety. I know Saban will still try and find a space for Mavety, but he can't be as high of a priority, IMO, at least I'm hoping.

When was the last time we landed a recruit because someone else ran out of room?

In the years that I've followed recruiting, I find that if the school isn't attractive enough to the recruit in itself, it doesn't matter who drops out or who comes into the game, the recruit will find a way to land somewhere else. Just b/c Bama's full doesn't mean Mavety will come to OSU, there's FSU and plenty of others that can jump in.

Know a few teams passed on Tommy Schutt. If you ask Bama fans, they'll say Vonn Bell

Schutt's example actually works in my favor. Here's a kid who was considering OSU, ND, SCum and PSU. Turned down by ND and SCum but still verbaled to PSU anyway. It's Sandusky, not the lack of numbers at other schools, that drove Schutt to OSU.

And we all know that Bell was a "Bama Lock" a week before NSD. So there goes that argument...

Chad leaving FSU without a verbal is big. That was a huge concern for me. A couple of insiders on 247 have changed their prediction to FSU but Coach Meyer made it very clear early on that he was going to handle Chad's recruitment personally. And keep in mind as of now Chad is the only confirmed official visit the weekend of the Indiana game. That means tons of personal attention from Coach Meyer and Coach Warriner.

After reading updates this morning on three o-line prospects, it sounds like Chad is the recruit they really want the most.
