'14 JUCO OT Chad Mavety (FSU Verbal)

With this season over half done I have begun to think about next year and the personel we will have. We will have so much young firepower on offense and, assuming Brax comes back you have to think we will be even better on that side of the ball.....except for the massive blow that will come with losing 4 of 5 on the O Line. Because of this, if you could only add one player from this point on who could make the most impact on winning a NC next year it's hard not to have Mavety at the top of the list. Could Raekwon come in and make a big impact at LB? Sure. But if I only had one player to help me win it all next year, I'd take Mavety.

Go back and read 2013 recruiting threads when we were missing on many O Lineman. Then we saw how well Warriner was doing developing talent. Then we landed 4 studs in the 2014 class. Mavety, if he comes on board, plays a huge role in the remarkable story of how quickly things can turn around. He is an extremely important recruit because he helps bridge the depth gap between the current O Line and the young guys. I fully expect him to be a starter next year if he comes aboard. I love his game. If he comes in with the right attitude and work ethic it could be a match made in heaven for both parties and the final piece in a truly amazing turn around for this position group. Of the remaining guys on the board you have to put Raekwon and Mavety as 1a and 1b.

One weekend visitor stands out above the rest in the form of Garden City (NY) Sparta junior college offensive tackle Chad Mavety, who is the top remaining offensive line target on Ohio State's recruiting board.

Mavety is the only player visiting OSU officially this weekend. He took a visit to Florida State a couple of weeks ago and things reportedly went pretty well for the 6-foot-7-inch, 320 pound offensive tackle. The Bucks and Noles are definitely the top two teams for Mavety and he should decide between the two shortly after taking his visit to Columbus this weekend.

11Warriors:

Perhaps the single biggest offensive target left on Ohio State's board, New York JUCO offensive lineman Chad Mavety, made his long awaited official visit to Ohio State this weekend. By most accounts, Mavety is down to two schools, Ohio State and Florida State, and he visited the Seminoles earlier in the month. After making an unofficial visit to Columbus this past summer, Mavety has been the odds-on favorite to round out Ed Warinner's 2014 offensive line class, an important group as the Buckeyes try and replace four departing seniors. As a JUCO player he's perhaps the most ready to step in and play immediately and that's what could give the Buckeyes an edge on the Seminoles. He saw a great year for his Nassau Community College team come to an end last week as he broke his leg, but he made the trip on crutches and from all accounts the Buckeyes, who were in excellent shape to begin with, strengthened their case for his services.

Mavety has asked me to reach out to him tomorrow so he can get home and get settled after his official visit, but he did tell me that he will be sitting down and discussing the pros and cons of Ohio State and Florida State and that a decision will be made sometime in the near future.

Four-star JUCO offensive tackle prospect Chad Mavety took an official visit to Ohio State over the weekend. Now he's down to the Buckeyes and Florida State, and he expects to make his decision within the next few weeks. (Rivals.com)

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The final seconds had just ticked off the clock from Ohio State’s 42-14 win over Indiana, and the Buckeyes were making their individual ways up the tunnel and toward the locker room.

Running backs coach Stan Drayton was just hitting his stride when he passed Chad Mavety, but he stopped for a brief second, turned around to the four-star offensive line prospect, and delivered a simple, yet powerful message.

“We need you,” Drayton said.

Mavety would be a great addition to our future O line and this class. But is he being assumed as the starter at a tackle spot next year? I thought Baldwin was doing pretty well by some accounts, Dodson hasn't been spoken of much(don't know if thats a good thing or bad), and Evan lisle will be very interesting to watch as well. At the least, Mavety would provide great depth and leadership, and at the most we have a starter at a T position for 2 yrs until a few guys mature(I.e. Lisle, Trout, Dodson and Jones).
