I would tend to agree with you OhioState001. He is completely open, is looking at academics and also football. NW and Stanford are top notch schools. The situation at OSU has dropped our chances a bit. the good news is close proximity to home, good academics and being from Centerville does not hurt. The coaching uncertainty is something that will hurt us with several recruits.

i think we are in trouble with any recruit that has the opportunity to attend other top schools. i will be surprised if we get any 4/5-star players before the penalties are released.

His dad works with my dad, and whenever my dad asks about his children, Mr. Odenigbo seems to think that his son will head to Stanford. I remember him saying that he loved Coach Tressel, but Stanford would be very hard to beat.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree, unless you're being sarcastic. OSU will still get top flight recruits, for the simple fact that a lot of kids would love to don the S&G! Critics also said that USC would suffer in recruiting, yet no one has seen much of a fall off at all. We have 9 committed players already, and we have a strong in state class as well. And we also still have the season to play out as well. For all we know, Fick can still get OSU to win yet another Big 10 title amidst sanctions, and we can still pull players based off of that. Fickell has inherited a very young team with a lot of depth at many key positions(except O line). We will be fine in the conference for several years based off of our talent alone. Recruits will still love to play for our team, especially young players who can say they were part of the team that took the Bucks to a NC right after sanctions :osu:

i'm not saying that we won't get 4/5-star players. i'm saying that i'll be surprised upon the commitment of any 4/5-star player, especially odenigbo, before the penalty announcement.

usc received it's punishment in june. they were waiting for the sentence during recruiting's slow period. we'll likely be waiting for our punishment during the heat of recruiting season. at least we should know where we stand months before signing day; however, the timing of the hearing and the probable release date is not advantageous when wooing blue chip players.

this discussion is better suited for another thread, though.

Centerville star?s view of OSU has changed

CENTERVILLE ? During a track season that saw him help the Centerville High School to a second-place state finish as a sprinter, Ifeadi Odenigbo wasn?t able to make the usual rounds of spring football visits.

Now he?s making up for it.

The Elks defensive end, coveted for his mix of size (6-3 1/2, 212 pounds) and speed (part of the 800-meter relay that finished third in the state), will make up to six college visits in the next month as the area?s highest-ranked football talent. Rivals.com has named him the 48th-best recruit nationally, and Scout.com ranks him No. 60.

Odenigbo visited Northwestern last weekend and expects to make trips to California, Stanford, Michigan, Michigan State and Illinois. Absent from that list is Ohio State, which has extended to Odenigbo one of his 32 scholarship offers.

Odenigbo has seen the OSU campus on multiple trips, but he said it?s difficult not to let the recent coverage of NCAA rules violations and the resignation of coach Jim Tressel affect how he views the school.

?To be honest, it has changed a little bit,? said Odenigbo, who ranked third in the Greater Western Ohio Conference with 5.5 sacks last season. ?It seems like every time you turn on ESPN there?s more stuff coming out.?

17 year-old kids don't realize that the education you receive is based 100% on the effort you put into learning, not on the college you're attending. Put another way, is my butt in the library studying, or am I playing video games in a Northwestern dorm room, assuming the learning will occur via osmosis because I'm attending Northwestern ?
Another fact which will carry no cachet with the 17 year-old mind: The Stanford or Northwestern degree will look better in getting your first job, but as regards the total earning potential over your entire working career see: butt in the library, studying.

i agree with you about putting in the time and effort. but having good professors and academic opportunities (research, etc) available to you also matters. i think it is what puts those two colleges above most others.
