'12 IL OL Jordan Diamond (Auburn Signee)

I have to say, I am a bit underwhelmed after viewing the video.

The tools are obviously there, but it is going to take some serious college coaching with rapid results if he is going to make an impact next fall.

That's kind of how I felt. He looked a bit slow and passive, but that clip looked like he was kind of bored.

Keep in mind it was only 1 game's tape... for all we know it couldve been a blowout already.

Based on the crowd, it seems like it might even be a scrimmage.

Even though it might be due to boredom/lack of effort for whatever reason, his pad level was way too high in that video and his footwork was not great. He can get away with it right now because he is so vastly superior to his competition.

As I said, this is nothing that good college coaching- and even more importantly good college competition (as you pointed out) can't fix pretty quickly.

Physically he looks ready to play college ball right now, but if his bad habits can't be erased before the fall he will struggle against college competition.

Obviously, if he comes here he'd be at or in the cusp of the two deep. I think we have enough (just barely) that he won't absolutely have to be contributing right away. I think Underwood, Norwell, Hall and Mewhort can be serviceable to get the two OT spots filled out. Who knows about Brown and any of the DL or Fragel that might switch over.

I'd hate to put the pressure on Diamond to come in and start or be the primary OT back-up, but I'm optimistic he'd be able to do so.

If we get a good OL coach, I may be one of the few who thinks in the next two years we may be able to get something out of C.Carter as well

I don't hold anything against the OL we have on the roster, I just don't project Carter as an Offensive Tackle where as Tommy Brown might be a RT possibility. I wasn't clear, but I tried to limit my post to who I thought might contribute as an OT in 2012.

I think Carter and Brown are guards all the way. Underwood can play RT, but it'd be best to have him at guard as well, more natural of a spot for his skillset. Ideally Norwell is a RT or LG (definitely can play LT though), Mewhort and Linsley are guards, and Hall is a guard as well. Not many true OTs on this roster....plenty of oppurtunity for a guy like Diamond to start as soon as he is ready here. Maybe Fragel converts to OT as well for his senior year.

I think that all things considered it would be good to move Fragel to OT. I think that he would do very well there and we definitely have depth at TE that it would not hurt that position.

LT - Fragel
LG - Mewhort or Hall
C - Bobek or Mewhort or Linsley
RG - Linsley or Mewhort
RT - Norwell

Spot on post. I believe Fragel starts at LT next year. Go Bucks

Just got done watching Diamond's senior film on Scout Premium...

He's definitely alot better than that 1 minute of film shown above. In the film I saw, he was aggresive, strong, and kept a much better pad level. He still is a touch slow in the feet, which leads me to believe he might end up at RT. Sky high potential though once he gets into the collegiate environment.

I think with the 85 scholarships you have, having a kid like Diamond backing up at either tackle spot is as good as you are going to get. The kid's got a great frame and a quick feet. And if you've been following the capo's stand on high school kids and techniques over the years on this board, you'll know that these are things that kids can refine once they get into the program. Anyway, Diamond is probably as high as it gets on our coaches' recruiting charts.
