Edgy Tim on high school football recruiting | Simeon's Diamond still visiting
By Tim O'Halloran Special to the Tribune
December 19, 2011
Simeon senior offensive tackle Jordan Diamond has three official visits left, with Ohio State and Auburn already done.
Diamond plans to visit Michigan (Jan. 13), Arkansas (Jan. 20) and Wisconsin (Jan. 27) before announcing his choice sometime around national signing day, which is Feb. 1.
"Everybody is even," Diamond said. "I'm just planning it out and taking all my officials. I don't really want to rate a school; that's not my style. Everybody is even until I make a decision."
Chicago (Ill.) Simeon four-star offensive tackle Jordan Diamond took his official visit to Ohio State the weekend of Dec. 9. He was one of only two prospects out of 15 officially visiting that weekend who is not currently on the Buckeyes' commitment list. He cited the postseason ban for the 2012 season as a concern, but not one big enough to take Ohio State off his interest list.
"It's a negative thing because you're taking away from the team and what they accomplished," Diamond said, "but I'm just going to take my time with it, really look through it and talk about it with my family, see what they think about it.
"Those things aren't really too big and don't knock them off the list or anything. Anything can happen right now and I just have to finish my recruitment. It's just something extra to think about and makes the process more stressful."
With official visits being scheduled left and right and coaching hires being made, the recruiting process for several top players is still in flux during the month of January. Such is the case for Chicago (Ill.) offensive lineman Jordan Diamond, who has a short list of schools but his final destination is still undetermined.
"I've got five but things could change," Diamond said. "With coaching staff changes going on, I'm definitely going to wait it out."
Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Auburn and Arkansas are the final five listed by the Maxpreps number seven offensive tackle in the class of 2012. He has officially visited all but the Wolverines so far and is looking for each program to match the criteria he's laid out.
"The opportunity to play early is going to be key," he said. "The ultimate thing is being comfortable though. Wherever I go I want to feel comfortable and fit in with the players and coaching staff. I want to bond as soon as I get there. When that feeling comes, I'll make the decision."
The Buckeyes, with new head coach Urban Meyer, appear to be one of the favorites to land the 6-foot-6, 310-pounder. In addition to being on the short list, Diamond's visit last month was a chance to get to know the program better.
"I took a visit on the 17th," he said. "The staff is very energetic. I love the players there and the coaching staff. Urban Meyer brings a lot of energy to what he does. I just had a good time overall there."
Diamond is ranked as the 41st overall recruit in the class of 2012 and plans on making an announcement on Signing Day.
