Neal looks awesome, but don't we have speed right now? I wonder if our issue has more to do with WR's being coached correctly... I remember seeing WRs running down the field vs MSU and Illinois and they're just running, not looking back at the QB or making any effort to break away from the DB.

Would be awesome to get Neal and Caleb though

Speed isn't entirely the problem as we do have a couple fast receivers (smith reed and brown have pretty good speed). The unit itself is young and went through a QB change. A freshman QB with young receivers isn't a good combination. But I honestly think that the overall playcalling scheme and the staffs lack of trust in the young group really stunted their growth. Neal is a perfect player for Meyer's offense because he'll put Neal in space and allow him to use his agility (which not many of our receivers have.) Hopefully there has been contact between Neal and Meyer because Neal is a fan of the buckeyes and probably realizes how Meyer would use him. He honestly looks like a slot receiver who Meyer will line up occasionally in the backfield alongside Miller. A combination of Miller and Neal in space with Urbans play calling would be lethal. OSU has young depth in the secondary so I like him on offense.

The absolute best part of this article:

Neal, who is from Akron, Ohio, has a special place in his heart for the Buckeyes. "It is kind of special," Neal said. "I was a ball boy for Ohio State when they played Kansas State and when they played against Miami for the national championship, so it's special. Plus, I am from Ohio, so that adds more juice to it."

Ball boy for the national championship? That's awesome.

I've wondered the same about OSU's receivers, but I have looked at the QBs as well. I think it's coaching at both positions IMO.

After watching the orange bowl, this kid reminds a little of Tavon austin. Gotta love the versatile hybrid players in spread. Neal, brown and hall will be able to create some great mismatches for urban.

It could reasonably be argued that the previous staff didn't make the best use of the speed on the team. That won't be a "problem" with the new staff and Urban Meyer. The "speed" guys will get plenty of action as well as the running backs.

Neal likely will be a late signee
January, 10, 2012
By Greg Biggins

Athlete Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) will take his second official visit this weekend to Ohio State. The athlete is planning to take all five of his visits and likely will wait to sign after signing day.

Neal took a December visit to Notre Dame and could take visits over the next four weekends before making his college choice.

?I?m visiting Ohio State this weekend,? Neal said. ?This is like a homecoming for me. I?m from Ohio and grew up a Buckeye fan. I was a ball boy for a couple of games when I was a little, so I?m really excited to get to Columbus and check out the school. I also have Arkansas set for (Jan. 20) and then I?m still sorting out my last two visits.

Urban seems to be playing all his cards right so far with Neal and growing up being a Buckeye fan is a huge plus for us, cause let's be honest that plays a role into anyone's decision as to where to go to college yet alone play college football. I just hope UFM doesn't make this kid wait it out too long hoping for someone like Diggs to finally peak in interest. I guess in the end, just like we will have to every Saturday, we have to put the faith in UFM to make the right calls.

Dad: Davonte' Neal won't go to ASU if John Sanders is hiredby Richard Obert - Jan. 12, 2012
The Arizona Republic | azcentral.com

Luke Neal, father of highly recruited receiver/cornerback Davonte' Neal of Scottsdale Chaparral, is starting to set the recruiting chains in motion with Arizona State.

A meeting with ASU offensive coordinator Mike Norvell has been scheduled for Monday at Luke's Scottsdale gym. If that goes well, he said he will have his son meet with ASU, and then go from there. But it all hinges on whether former Scottsdale Saguaro coach John Sanders is hired at ASU.

If Sanders comes on board in some capacity at ASU, Luke Neal said that his son will stop considering going there, because of remarks Sanders made last year when Neal was awarded the Gatorade Arizona Football Player of the Year over then Saguaro quarterback Teddy Ruben.

Sanders said last year that he was stunned that Ruben didn't get the state's top honor from Gatorade over Neal, calling it "a crock."

Neal, who will visit Ohio State this weekend and Arkansas next weekend, repeated as Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year in 2011 after getting more than 1,000 yards both rushing and receiving and returning five kicks for touchdowns among his 35.

Are we worried about Dad here at all? A lot of folks say he's running the recruitment, and his comments above seem a little silly. Not considering a school cause of a grudge like that seem childish.

Although I guess if Dad like Ohio St., then it's all good:biggrin: I just never like seeing a situation where it seems like the parents are making the all the calls. Let the kid pick his own school.
