That's pretty big since he already visited ND and there were considered the favorites. A lot of ND fans have said that dad runs the show and will be a heavy influence in picking the school. They are very confident dad loves ND's education and therefore is going to make him pick ND.

We'll see what happens, but I'm really not concerned with Neal falling in love with Arkansas or UNC. Those are good schools, but I just don't view them as a major threat for a lifelong Buckeye fan from Arizona. ND and maybe a late push from Arizona would be my main concerns.

Davonte Neal gives Ohio State high marks
January, 15, 2012
By Greg Biggins

Athlete Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) took his second official visit of the year this past weekend to Ohio State. Neal had previously visited Notre Dame.

Neal considered the trip somewhat of a coming home party, as he was born in Ohio and lived there until he was seven.

?The last time I saw Ohio State, I think I was in the second grade,? Neal said. ?I really liked it there. It felt familiar, but there has also been a ton of changes. I think what stood out most was the academic center and the support the players get from the tutors and counselors. They keep the football players accountable and that?s important to me. I loved the campus, and the new dorms they?re building are real nice.

Glad to hear his focus was on the academic and living side of being in college as much as his playing football. The state of Arizona is dead last or second to last in education in the United States and has been that way for a while. I moved out here in '06 and to see it in person is a real eye opener. There are good schools out here and bad, much like everywhere else but its overwhelmingly lacking overall. I don't hear a lot of athletes from here really stressing that education factor as much as I do the athletics. Maybe its that way everywhere now but its refreshing hearing that from Davonte.

Ummm, I live in Arkansas. And Mississippi is next door to me. We beg to differ....unfortunately.

But it IS good to hear kids talking about education and other aspects of college life. There's SO MUCH that goes on during a kids 3-5 years at school...hate to focus completely on the athletic side.

BN$--Neal Winding It Down After OSU Trip

Dad says Davonte enjoyed the trip but is only starting the recruiting process. He will likely decide in March.

I love Davonte's skill set, but we have a guy next year in Jalin Marshall and plenty of other spots to fill at positions of greater need (OL, LB, now DB) that make Davonte not a kid I think we let us string us along.

I know the title calls Neal a WR, but I believe he is rated an "athlete" because of his prowess as a defensive back, and he was even selected to the Under Armour game as a corner.

Neal seems like a kid who could make an impact on either side of the ball (both?) and immediately as a returner. If the ship has sailed on Diggs, I would think Neal becomes one of the top priorities to finish out this class because of his versatility and explosiveness...

The way the train is rumbling along, I'm pretty sure there won't be any room in March unless there's later attrition. Too bad. I think this kid is going to be a great addition to any team he picks.

I feel the same. You want to be a buckeye get on board and I'd love to have you, if not, the train keeps rolling.

Neal has been a National recruit since his FRESHMAN year of high school. I remember seeing an ESPN article about him. It's not like he just found out last week that signing day is only 3 weeks away. The kid has been getting letters for four years.

And yes, I know, we waited for Terrelle. But, Neal is not Terrelle.

I agree with this and its a nice summary of my line of thought. He adds an element to Meyer's offense and the versatility to help on D if needed.

I tend to think the opposite unless we land a huge commit out of left field later on (Diggs, Winston, etc.). By then perhaps we have a better idea around signing day and either bank the scholly for Neal, or for '13. I see what everyone else is saying though...I just really, really want to see Neal in this class, I really think of him as an elite, versatile talent.
