'10 OH OL Andrew Donnal (Iowa Verbal)

Any subdued enthusiasm toward stealing an Ohio kid from tOSU this year is likely due to the recruitment of Melvin Fellows and Marcus Hall. I can't remember the last time they stole a prospect of Cordale Scott's caliber from under tOSU's nose, but the way that went down definitely had them smelling themselves going into the '09 recruiting season. It's kind of like taking the hottest girl in the club home for the first time in your life, but then your confidence in repeating that feat declines week after week of leaving that same club either empty-handed, or with a benficiary of beer goggles. At least that's how I hope Illinois(e)' future recruiting endeavors in Ohio pan out.

What do you guys think about Donnal vs Matt James? I keep hearing a lot about him, but James seems to be rated much higher in some circles. They seem to be similar size, James is faster. Just interested in comparisons.

IMHO I see a kid in James that plays against much better competition, but Donnal is a very athletic kid could play LT at the next level, but I think Donnal is one to keep an eye on for sure and if some of the big name guys like Henderson, Hurst, Green fall thru I would not be at all disapointed if we took Donnal because of that...

Donnal Adds Michigan Offer

Whitehouse (Ohio) Anthony Wayne offensive lineman Andrew Donnal has added several scholarship offers to his list. The latest schools to offer Donnal include Michigan, Cincinnati, North Carolina and Bowling Green.
The 6-foot-7 and 250-pound Donnal already had offers from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Stanford, Maryland, West Virginia, Duke and Toledo.
Donnal plans to attend Michigan's junior day on Friday and will watch the Wolverines' first spring practice on Saturday. He also plans to attend Notre Dame's spring game and most likely Ohio State's spring game.

hmm...

comments?

I think Donnal has some obvious tools to work with but that James has the same tools, and a bit better technique and mean streak. I like James better at this point but I think Donnal could develop into on heck of a LT as well.

Is it time to offer the kid?

I see an offer at camp...no inside knowledge, just think that is when it could happen...But yes I think I am on the side of getting Donnal an offer...

I'm in that boat too. I really like Donnal and with the recent whisperings on Matt James, I think we offer Donnal at some point. We are a longshot with Henderson (so it seems), Hurst commited, Chaz Green is a longshot...if Donnal is down with waiting, I wouldn't mind seeing how it plays out with the others. However, I think he gets an offer eventually.

And IMHO he might be a little better suited for LT than Norwell...I am not saying anything bad about Norwell, and Norwell is obviously going to be better suited early in his career for anywhere on the line, but Donnal looks to be a little better athlete, to where if he gets stronger, and such, he might have better feet and then we could have Norwell at RT, where he could also be a force...Or Donnal could play RT and take over for Norwell after he left, because I think that Donnal would take a redshirt year...

But i think the staff might want to see a little more on how the James and Henderson recruitments are going to go...I think that James could play guard...
