They're 19th in effective FG percentage, which takes into account the fact that making 40% of threes scores as many points as making 60% of twos.
Bottom line is we've got another one of the best offensive teams in the nation in front of us. We just need to do what we do, play defense, and exploit their weakness - defense.
Iowa State is 134th in opponents' effective FG percentage. The Buckeyes are 37th. Play defense, and win.

In summary, I watched ISU lose to Cincy.

They don't have anyone I believe shooting over 39% from deep and as a team they're shooting 37.2%, which is 44th in the nation. They do lead the nation in 3 point attempts, so just an observation but the quantity doesn't seem to match the quality IMO.
It'll be weird seeing Korie Luscious on their squad too.
Tecmo Bowl;2319349; said:You must not have seen the stat line for the Cyclones 6th man, Tyrus McGee. He shoots around 47% from 3. He led the Big 12 in 3's made, and nationally is one of the most accurate. He's regarded as one of the best 6th men in the nation.
The majority of ISU's guys are shooting in the mid to upper 30's percentile as you noted, and McGee typically puts up 4-6 a game. What probably separates ISU from a lot of other 3 point shooting squads, is that its not uncommon for the each of the forwards (Ejim and Niang) to also hoist 2 or 3 treys a game.
ISU is one of the rare teams in the nation that has no qualms with any of the first 6 guys in the game shooting multiple 3's.
Best wishes to you guys today in EVERY facet of the game, except for getting the W! One of my best friends is from the Columbus area, and used to cover OSU football for a newspaper in Maysville KY. I always get a lot of feedback on how the Buckeyes are doing throughout the year in all sports, and really respect programs that excel in not only football but basketball as well. Texas could learn a thing or two from OSU...
With the other half of the bracket in shambles, its really an exciting game that Cyclone nation is looking forward to.

Tecmo Bowl;2319361; said:It's out of necessity that he's a 6th man. He's not a facilitator so he can't start over Korrie Lucious at the 1. ISU doesn't have a big front court with Ejim and Niang(both about 6'8"), but Clyburn at 6'7" on the wing gives them a really dynamic look. Clyburn is too valuable in the match-up sense to sit out much. Clyburn can also get to the foul line a lot racking up fouls on the opponents front court.
Chris Babb is the Clones best defender, and Babb is their 2nd best 3 point shooter. Those 3 guys are have to play.
Hoiberg specifically targeted a 3 point specialist for the bench role, and Fred gets to play the substitution match-ups in order to put his most dangerous shooter (McGee) in spots to succeed the most. McGee is also a huge energy guy. He's a spark off the bench. Hard driver and leads the team in steals per game. Unsure if he could sustain that all game and still shoot at such a high percentage late in the game when shots need to fall. Shooters aren't as sharp when their legs get tired and they don't have the lift.
McGee averages about 25 minutes a game. Unsure what the rest of the nation has for 6th men on the floor, but he's on the court a pretty good deal of the game.

I would much rather tOSU keep playing these small teams that live to run run run with no dominant big man as opposed to a Mich St or someone again. Iona and Iowa St play right into our strengths for the most part we just haven't had many opportunities to play fast paced like this throughout the year. Thad should have a big coaching advantage in this short time period too. I'm predicting a 10-14 point win. I think this team has been focused now for a while and they shouldn't slip up here.
